"Aaaaannnnnddd here we are folks for match 15: Eva Greathorn vs. Irann Amalith," boomed the voice of the overenthusiastic goblin announcer. Eva came strutting out from the dark passageway, greataxe resting casually on one shoulder. She had opted to keep her disguise spell active and had traded her usually snug fitting Mage's robe for some leather armor. Her opponent Irann seemed to glide out if her own passageway, her lithe body reminded them of a jungle cat ready to pounce at a moments notice. Her dark green overcoat was covering a pair of light green trousers and a light green tunic. A pair of shortswords hung at her wide swaying hips on a belt with a few pouches for who know what and a full quiver of arrows hung from her back with an accompanying longbow clenched in her right hand. It was her hair and skin that surprised them however, as her near black skin and white hair really stood out.
"A dark elf? Here," asked Jack.
Vect's demeanor seemed to shift to displeasure, glaring at the ranger.
"Uuhh, you ok Vect," asked Sara, cautiously putting her hand on his shoulder to try to relax him. She felt his tense muscles loosen slightly at her touch. "Yeah I'm....no I'm not ok. But I'll probably get over it probably by the end of this fight." He saw Sara's bewildered expression out of the corner of his eye. "I'll explain later tonight."
Then the horn sounded and the fight began. Eva took a 2 handed stance and charged forward, head lowered presenting her horns. In response, the Drow ranger threw a handful of smoke bombs at her feet to create a dark cloud of concealment. Eva came to a halt amidst the thick cloud, looking in every direction for some sight, sound, or even smell of where her opponent had gone. Her answer came soon enough as an arrow flew past her head with a second hitting her left thigh. She began running in the direction the arrows came from only to be struck from behind by another arrow. Eva silently thanked her species thick hide and for the armor she had decided to wear instead of the flimsy robe. She spun around in a crouch and narrowly dodged another arrow.
'I'm starting to get real tired of this shit,' she fumed as another arrow struck her chest piece and caused her breasts to bounce from the impact. "Ok that's it," she stood up and with a grunt shoved the handle of her axe into the ground to free up her hands. She then began to channel the necessary mana for her plan.
"What could she be planning," whispered Irann to herself as she loosed another arrow. This one actually caused Eva some pain as it missed her armour and hit her left armpit as her hands were raised in the air for the precise movements for the spell. Eva only grunted but kept her hands moving until finally the spell was ready. Smiling, Eva pointed both hands, palms facing the ground, and let the spell loose, sending a powerful blast of air and lightning from her hands outward. The airwave pushed the smokescreen outward and away from the arena into the sky, but it also knocked the unprepared drow tumbling backwards. Then the lightning bolts began to strike, glassing any sand it struck. A few stray bolts hit near the slightly panicking drow, with one landing on her right leg, sending electricity through her body. As Eva was beginning to enjoy the drow's pain, she felt her left arm begin to go numb. She smacked her arm to try to regain feeling.
"What the hell? The arrow!" She pulled out the arrow and saw a small trace of green liquid on the arrowhead. She began to hear laughter from her opponent and turned to face her.
"Feeling a little numb," the drow stumbled to her feet, clothing smoking slightly from the lightning strike. "All I have to do is wait, he he he."
Eva glanced down at the bow still clenched in the ranger's hand, the bow string had snapped off rendering it useless. Eva smiled and grabbed the greataxe in her right hand. "Then I just have to beat you before the poison gets me."
The ranger dropped her bow and drew both her shortswords. Eva saw the same green liquid dripping from the blade tips. The ranger then lunged forward in a flurry of blades putting Eva on the defense. Or at least as best she could when down one arm and using a 2 handed weapon. After narrowly avoiding a slash at her right arm, Eva dropped the axe and channeled her mana into her palm and sent it pushing outward in a force blast. Irann was pushed backwards a few dozen feet, giving Eva some breathing room. She then felt her right leg begin to go numb.
"No, how?" Eva glanced down to see a very small cut just above her knee, a small trickle of blood flowing down her shin.
Up in the stands, Vect's knuckles were beginning to turn white from how hard he was clenching them. Sara saw the smoldering anger in his eyes. Freed, Vesper, and Mai were cheering Eva to get up, to win.
Eva held her hand splayed out and sent a torrent of fire shooting out towards the grinning drow. Rather than dodging the fire, Irann crossed her blades and formed a magic barrier and ran into the fire. Eva could do nothing but increase the flow of mana to intensify the fire, but still the drow continued. Eva felt the blades cut through the leather and pierce her chest. Eva could feel her body go numb, and turned her head to see the drow behind her. "Ha, I win," gloated the ranger as Eva dropped to the ground and the horn sounded, ending the fight.
Up in the stands, Vect stood up quickly and left. Sara began to follow, but Freed grabbed her arm. "Let him go. Give him some time to cool." Sara watched as Vect headed out the arena, seeing Duinir follow him, keeping his distance.
