Jeff grabbed a towel to dry his face and, upon doing so, tossed the towel into the hamper and hurried down the stairs. As he reached the bottom, he could hear the faint beep of his computer finishing up the chronivac update. Before he had time to really register what he heard, a heavy fog coalesced around his mind. It became hard to think, and Jeff grabbed the stair railing to steady himself. But as fast as it had come, the fog lifted, and Jeff felt normal again. Putting it off as a low blood sugar moment, Jeff once again hurried off to dinner.
Jeff walked into the kitchen just as his mother was setting the last dishes on the table.
"How's my little man doing?" Jeff's mom cooed.
"Little man?" Jeff questioned himself. "She's never called me that before..." Jeff sat down at the table and began doling out serving to himself and his mom.
Jeff's mom pulled out her chair and sat down. She looked over at Jeff as he was reaching over the table to scoop some mashed potatoes, and quickly said, "Jeff, stop!"
Jeff stopped what he was doing and froze.
"Jeff, honey, if you're not careful you'll get your beard in the potatoes!" she explained. "My goodness, you still haven't gotten used to having such a hairy face, have you? It did come along so quick I suppose! Only a month ago was I buying you your first razor!"
"Beard?" Jeff though again to himself. "But I just shaved!" Jeff reached up to his face, and where he expected to feel freshly shaven skin was instead a very heavy beard! Jeff began to panic, his mom was gonna freak! It was then that he realized his mom already HAD noticed, and she didn't have a problem! That couldn't been right, unless...
Jeff recalled the beep he heard from his computer. Not wanting to upset his mother after taking so long to get downstairs for dinner, Jeff scarfed down his meal and hurried back upstairs to check his computer.
