"Gurpreet, Hi" Harvey greeted back, "How are you?"
"I'm good, glad to see you again. What are you up to?" Gurpreet asked.
"I have half an hour before my next class so I was just going to chill in the cafeteria until then, what about you?"
"Prefect!" Gurpreet clapped his hands together, "I have a break as well, would you like to sit with me?" Harvey didn't expect that Gurpreet would offer to spend time together outside of the organization, they had only met yesterday. Yet, something about Gurpreet's friendliness was infectious. Harvey could see why Gurpreet was chosen to be the liaison to new members. Plus, he was already in a good mood.
"Sure" Harvey replied with a smile. They both sat at one of the cafeteria tables and Gurpreet fished a few pieces of tupperware from his bag.
"You're looking quite fashionable today" Gurpreet gestured at Harvey's head. The turban! How could he forget that he was wearing it again? Harvey didn't know how to explain to Gurpreet why he was wearing it or how he'd even gotten a turban cloth.
"Uh... thanks" Harvey decided to accept the compliment. He didn't want to take his turban off in front of Gurpreet after he had been so nice. After all, he had no reason to be embarrassed by it in front of a sikh. It wasn't really bothering him either. Harvey thought having all that extra cloth on his head should feel itchy or weird, but it almost felt normal.
"Now that I know you can tie a turban so well, I can't let you just wear a patka by itself to our meetings. You need to look your best! By the way, did you see Mandeep's email?"
"Yeah, the one about the meeting tonight. Some kind of indoctrination thing, what's that about?"
Gurpreet chuckled, "That part's a secret. You'll be coming tonight to find out, right?"
"I'll be there" Harvey refrained from reiterating that he didn't have a choice in coming to these events, and he didn't want to dampen Gurpreet's mood when he looked so happy.
"I'm glad. It's a social event so it'll be a lot more fun than yesterday's meeting. Mandeep and I have been working hard to plan all the activities, food, and drinks. Speaking of" Gurpreet raised on of his tupperware containers towards Harvey, "Hungry?"
"No thanks, it's a little early for lunch" Harvey felt too awkward to accept the food, besides he wasn't a big fan of Indian food. He hadn't tried much, but he felt it was all too spicy for him. Gurpreet shrugged and opened his container of tandoori chicken. Harvey caught a whiff of the spices which gave him a taste of nostalgia. He began to reminisce about his mother's cooking, even though she had never cooked anything like this. "Maybe I'll have a little bit" Gurpreet handed Harvey the container of Tandoori chicken and continued eating his own. Harvey managed to finish the whole thing and patted his stuffed stomach with satisfaction. His polo felt a bit tighter than usual after that meal. Gurpreet rubbed his own, much larger gut and gave Harvey a napkin to wipe the excess spices from his dense stubble.
"So you were hungry after all" Gurpreet smirked "Make sure you bring that appetite tonight, the food will be even better"
"I'll be looking forward to it" Harvey checked his phone and saw his half hour was almost up "Looks like it's time for me to head to class. See you tonight." He packed up his things and headed to his next class.
