'Damn stupid horn,' Beverly cursed as she slowly trotted out into the arena. 'Can't wear my helmet and now in the first round I gotta beat up a new friend. Well, at least I haven't gotten to know her very well so it won't be that hard for me. Then again I don't know much about her either or what she can do. On the other hand neither can she. But- oh I'm here!' Beverly came to a sudden stop when she realized she was in the center of the arena. She had chosen the to go lightly armoured for the tournament, a leather cover over her horse half and a chest piece for her torso with a pair of bracers. Her bow in one hand, and a pair of swords at her hips. She hoped to surprise Celine with her own spells. Celine stared at her opponent, blue mages robe rustling in the breeze. 'I don't like the clothes but if I must then I must,' Celine simmered.
Up in the private staff box, Theodore Milton heard someone approaching.
"Ahh, Gabriel you finally came."
"Yeah, I had some things to look into and just finished."
"The creatures?"
"Both the chimera and the super werewolf had the same magical feeling to them. It stands to reason that they may have been created by the same person." His face grew solemn. "From what I was able to divine, the werewolf was in an incredible amount of pain, killing it was a mercy. It's possible it may have been an unwilling test subject."
"Thank you. Sorry you missed the other fights with your students. I'm assuming that's why you've stepped outside your private tower," he smiled.
"What can I say? They've grown on me a little. How are they doing?"
"Freed, Vesper, and Mai won their battles. Eva was beaten by a drow using poison. Celine is the last one of your students to go." Theodore leaned forward, hands interlaced. "It seems her opponent is from a group of friends from the barbarian training camp. I wonder how she'll do?"
'Ok. Centaurs can't turn quickly so all I have to do is latch on to her and keep her from building any speed. Otherwise she might out pace me,' Celine strategized. 'Don't know what is with that horn though. Maybe it's a fashion accessory? I really should have asked before the list was published. Oh well, can't be helped now.' She crouched down in an attack stance, a knife in one hand, with the other on the ground ready to propel her forward. The horn sounded and she lept forward. To her surprise, Beverly was smiling. Her confusion was answered by a clap of thunder and a great force slamming into her, sending her hurtling backwards. She tumbled 10 feet away, frantically scrambling to her feet, knife missing.
"Thunderclap, huh. Evidently, Gratz has been teaching some spells from the mages school," Headmaster Milton mused.
Beverly turned and began to run towards the arena wall, giving her some distance between herself and Celine, drawing an arrow and notching it. Celine growled and prepared her own spell. A series of red beams shot from her hands and flew toward Beverly. Beverly turned and began running along the wall, the rays striking the wall behind her in quick succession, one nicking the end of her tail. She aimed her bow and let an arrow fly at Celine. She sidestepped it barely, a light scratch on her arm. She felt it begin to burn. 'Acid,' she cursed. She was losing her patience when the second, third, and fourth arrows were narrowly dodged. She was baring her fangs at the circling centaur.
"So she'll be first to drop the disguise spell," Gabriel frowned.
To Celine it was like a great weight was lifted from her very essence. She felt her body grow slightly, dropping to all fours. Beverly slowed slightly, 'what is she doing? A new spell perhaps.' Celine archer her back, feeling her robe being shredded by the growing spikes along her back and the large feathered orange wings. She opened her mouth and felt the saber like canines grow in. Sighing, she glared at Beverly, "now that's better. Let the fun begin." Not caring that she was essentially naked, celine ran with great speed towards Beverly's shocked form. Beverly cast a haste spell as quickly as she could. She picked up speed, feeling Celine's claws dig into her flanks. Beverly dropped her bow by mistake from the pain, and almost lost her footing. She grabbed one of her swords and tried to slash Celine off of her while still running at full speed. She felt the sword clang off of one of Celine's spikes, knocking her grip loose. Celine dug one paw into Beverly's hind leg causing it to give out and send them both tumbling onto the ground, with Celine recovering more easily thanks to her feline agility as opposed to the rather bulky and somewhat unwieldy body centaurs have. Crawling on all fours, Celine stalked towards Beverly who was trying to get back up, but was having difficulty doing so. As Celine came within 5 feet from Beverly, the centaur stopped her frantic struggling and gave a huff.
"I can't get back up.....I yield to you," she said reluctantly and the horn sounded ending the fight. Celine smiled and gave Beverly a hand to help her bulk up and led the injured centaur off the arena.
