"Oh, I'm sorry" Kayla put on her most innocent voice "I was just about to put James on his leash. Sorry about that!"
As if by magic Kayla reached into her jacket and produced a brown leather leash. Not seeing any other option James remained still and allowed her to tie it around his neck. It felt a little restrictive and completely humiliating but it wasn't too uncomfortable.
"Are you a part of the carnival?" The man asked, still not completely appeased.
"Yes, I'm a magician" Kayla gestured to her tent "James is my performing monkey. I'll show you - James, jump up and down for me"
Kayla pulled tight on the leash and James did as intructed.
"Good boy, now beg for a banana"
With a second pull of the leash James put out his hands in a begging motion and made a whining noise. He really hoped the part of the spell that dusguised his true identity didn't wear off now.
"Hmm, I've seen better but I suppose he can stay. But you'll need to take him to our on site vet, get him chipped in case he escapes and make sure he doesn't have fleas"
"Ook! Ook! Eeeek!" James protested. This was too much! He was silenced by another tug of the lead.
"Of course, I'll get right on it" the witch smiled.
The man nodded "Oh, and one more thing. Jsmes is a silly name for a monkey. Call him sonething more appropriate. Like Coco"
"Ook! Eeeek!"
"Sure, Coco it is!" Kayla beamed as the man walked off.
"Sorry Coco" she giggled at James once the man was out of earshot "can't go upsetting the boss"
