The January edition of Animalia Magazine was rather interesting and informative, and in some cases funny.
The cover couple was Benny and Marina, while accompanied by their new daughter. While Marina giving birth on New Year's during the countdown between New Year's Eve and New Year's Day was a little unexpected, it did give some information on aquatic mammal births. It did confirm that aquatic infant Animalians had limbs that were less developed than other infant Animalians, Maria's limbs were a little more developed than Ran and Gaz's children, by comparison.
The next article talked about the things that would be going on for the Year of the Pig celebration. For instance, there was going to be a sumo competition as part of the celebrations, and it also talked about what was real and what was a myth about sumo wrestling. For instance, it talked about how there was a lot more moves to sumo wrestling than simply shouting Japanese-sounding phrases (like "lo-fat-lo") before body slamming your opponent.
Another article talked about important events that happened during January. Some of them were more surprising than others, and some were something really unexpected. One was that Emperor Commodus became consul on January 1st at age 15, and desperately wanted to be a gladiator but was murdered before his first scheduled match, which showed that at least some gladiators weren't slaves and/or prisoners of war.
The funniest article was about known and less well known "hybrid animals", which was partly inspired by Heracles' uplifting, which was considered part of Project Chimera. While the mule was considered next, there was an official web address to a "Suggestions" poll for the next creature to be uplifted as Project Chimera. One that was a little surprising was the water deer. While some accused it of being a fake, it turned out to be real, and was most often found in China and Korea. The reason that some people thought that it was a fake was that it didn't have any antlers, but had large, vampire-like fangs in its mouth. While a male being "sponsored" by North Korea was somewhat suspicious, especially with the tension with North Korea, it was just one that happened to be captured when Project Chimera was officially announced. While it wouldn't be uplifted until it arrived in late February, it was something to look forward to.
There was also an interview with Heracles by Animalia Ambassadoria reporter and interviewer Jen-jen. While most of it was considered tasteful for children, that was probably because some of the more embarrassing questions were removed, but the video of the full interview was on the website. According to the interview, Heracles was studying (alongside "basic hunkanomics", as one person on the website asked) sports medicine to become a professional trainer. The most surprising thing, to him at least, was the news that the virus had successfully "restored" his fertility. At that, there was a lot of date requests and marriage proposals, but he was more focused on completing his education for the time being.
The January issue of Animalia Magazine was a real "I.Q. tester", as one person called it, but it was a good way to learn new things, especially with Animalia.
