Marilyn rubbed her eyes trying to wrap her mind around everything she had just heard. Kellie, her eldest daughter had returned from the dead in another timeline, Ann, her middle daughter, was bisexual and dating a mystery woman, and Lisa, her youngest, was not only involved in magical battles but was now a supportive grandmother to her adopted daughter. Glancing at the glass of scotch in her hand she realized she had drained it dry and was desperately in need of a refill.
“I could use a refill,” she sighed. As she started towards the desk she gasped, noticing her glass refilling itself once more. Staring wide eyed at her family she now sought an explanation. “Did any of you do that,” she asked. Katie, Gloria and the others shook their heads no, they were just as surprised as Marilyn. As the elderly woman studied her family she noticed the tiny infant Morgan staring at her with her wide crystal blue eyes.
Slowly Marilyn was beginning to put things together, Morgan was no ordinary child and her family knew this. “Katie,” she said slowly. “Where exactly did Morgan come from?” Katie fidgeted as she nervously looked at her family, none of them had thought of an explanation of where two college women had found the infant. “The truth,” Katie asked sheepishly. Marilyn nodded, placing a hand on her hip as she stared at her granddaughter.
“Um grandma,” Katie sighed. “What do you know about Morgan LeFay?”
“She was the arch nemesis of Merlin,” Marilyn stated. “She led the to downfall of Camelot, was an evil sorceress of legend, etc., etc, etc.” Lisa, Ann, and Kellie gazed at their mother, surprised to know she had any knowledge of Morgan LeFay. “What,” Marilyn exclaimed. “I was an English major in college girls. Old English literature was a passion of mine when I was at university. Now what does that have to do with Morgan?”
“Here’s the thing Grandma,” Katie said sheepishly. “You see, the stories.....their true. They’re all true.”
Marilyn tilted her head curiously as Katie now told her about Morgan LeFay. She listened intently as she discovered that the sorceress had targeted the O’Toole/Turner family because of their connection to Merlin. While Kellie had more experience in battling Morgan LeFay, Katie and her sister had been the ones to fight her two weeks ago. ”Katie I appreciate you telling me all this but what does this have to do with Morgan?”
“Grandma,” Katie said sheepishly. “When we fought her she cast a spell trying to destroy us. We deflected it back at her and well....this happened.”
Marilyn’s eyes grew wide as she now gazed at the innocent looking newborn in Katie’s arms. “Katie,”she whispered. “Are you telling me....”
“Yeah grandma,” Katie said quietly. “This baby IS Morgan LeFay.”
Marilyn’s jaw dropped as she now looked down at the tiny infant. Morgan gazed up at her, a sweet innocent smile on her angelic face. Tentatively she reached a hand out to the child, brushing her fine golden hair out of her eyes. Morgan cooed softly as she looked at her great grandmother. “Unbelievable,” she whispered. “Your telling me this infant is, was a creature of legend? This...this is incredible!”
“Let’s not call Morgan a creature grandma,” Katie frowned. Marilyn quickly apologized, still astounded that she was staring at a legendary figure of history. A sorceress so powerful that her legend had survived a millennium. “Katie,” she said softly. “Can...can I hold her?”
“Sure,” Katie said, surprised by her grandmothers request. Slowly she now passed the child off to her grandmother ewho cradled the child in her arms. Morgan looked at her great grandmother, cooing softly and giving the woman a small smile. “I..I think she likes me,” Marilyn chuckled, wiping her eyes as they began to dampen with tears.
Kellie and her sisters stood in stunned silence as they watched their mother, none of them would of expected Marilyn to warm to the child so quickly.
