“Well not looking to get old and grey so might as well try this one,” Candace stated as she opened the AR door. As she entered the room Candace beheld a long hallway lined with mirrors on either side. Aside from the mirrors the only other thing she could see was a hand painted sign standing at the beginning of her path.
“Ready to go back,” she read. “Geez these guys are hokey it’s just a hall of mirrors.” Thinking herself swindled Candace let out annoyed grunt. As she turned she was surprised to find the door she had just entered appeared to have vanished. “Seriously,” she groaned. “Ugh fine, might as well check this thing out.” Taking a step forward an odd feeling crept over Candace that she simply chalked up to a blast of cold air.
As she walked forward she kept chancing a glance at the mirrors that lined the hall. They appeared to be slightly spaced apart from one another. As she passed each mirror she would look herself over, frowning each time she passed. “What a crock,” she grumbled. “I still look the same. I would of thought they would at least put some effort into this, maybe one of those apps that makes you look younger like Snapchat or something. Looking back at where she started Candace was surprised to see she had already walked a significant distance. Shaking her head Candace took another step forward.
“Ow Damn it,” she cursed, reaching for her ankle. Candace rubbed a sore spot on her ankle, thinking she had tripped over something. Looking down at the floor she couldn’t seem to find the offending object. “Damn that hurts,” she grumbled. “Feels like I cut my leg on something.” As she went to inspect her ankle she gasped in shock.
Candace had a small tattoo on her ankle, a tattoo she had gotten done four years ago a day after her 26th birthday. As she now looked where the tattoo was supposed to be she found it no longer existed. The skin was smooth and showed no sign of the tattoo she had. “What the hell,” she whispered. “How is that possible? Unless....”
Candace now approached the closest mirror to her to inspect her appearance. From a distance she had noticed any significant changes but upon closer inspection, she noticed things. Candace’s appearance appeared more refreshed than usual, her skin was flawless and radiated youth while her eyes sparkled with energy. Running a hand through her dark hair she was surprised to find that it seemed thicker and perhaps a little longer. Finally she ran a hand over her body. Their were small changes that would not be suspected unless someone looked closely. Candace’s breast seemed firmer while her stomach appeared a little flatter. Breathlessly she now gazed at her youthful appearance, realizing what had happened.
“I’m 26,” she whispered. Looking down towards the floor Candace noticed a small card sitting at the bottom of the mirror. Cautiously picking up she read the words on it, her jaw dropping in shock.
“Happy 26th birthday Candace,” she read. “Would you like to continue on your journey?”
Candace paused as she now glanced ahead of her. The hall of mirrors seems endless, at least it appeared to be endless. Candace knew full well that she had about 26 more years left in her journey. Did she dare see how far the hall would go or would she end it now. Slowly Candace now stood as she looked around the hall as she came to a decision.
