"Well, I'm not foolish enough to turn down a gift from LILITH, that's asking for trouble," 'Maaya' said, looking at herself in the mirror in Jack's bedroom. Being reborn as a succubus, came with some instinctive knowledge. "Though passing for my old incarnation isn't gonna be practical. I love being able to turn on the charm and seeing the looks on the faces of those brats at school! Still, this form is gonna be REAAAAALLLY useful whenever I need to go feeding."
"So what's your name if it isn't Maaya?" Jack asked.
'Maaya' laughed. "HA! Nice try. But no dice! I know how vulnerable someone knowing your real name can make you. I'd rather not be randomly summoned by somebody."
"Aren't we all friends here?" 'Lexie' asked with a smile.
"We've known each other for an afternoon, we're acquaintances, but I wouldn't mind us BECOMING friends."
'Maaya' shifted to her mousy appearance, then to her true form, and leaned back in the chair, her chest outward and her legs apart.
"You do realize mom will UNMAKE YOU, if you feed on me right?"
"Sorry, it's just my nature. That's the risks you take having a succubus on the team."
Lexie did a couple cart wheels and said, "Okay, gotcha. I like this new costume too. I wasn't gonna say anything to THE Lilith, your mom or not. And it IS gonna be useful for hanging out! But I am gonna have to make a new Rex costume. If I'm gonna be undercover at the school. If Rex vanishes, and I show up, problem is that when things don't get cleaned, that's when the janitor is noticed. And I don't think she knows I got 'Rexie' as the girl nickname for the female T-Rex in that big movie! But Lexie's a good alias for when we're hanging out among humans."
"I am human," Jack pointed out.
"Meant other humans, sorry," 'Lexie' said. "I'll admit, I was looking forward to pretending to be your little sister and acting like a destructive wild kid in public!" 'Lexie' unzipped her costume, revealing the little imp inside who began hoping on the bed, and hopped on the ceiling for good measure.
"Maybe we can still do that sometime," Jack shrugged. "But explaining where you go half the time might get too complicated, and having a 'little sister' pop up might be too confusing, we can go with the 'distant cousin' routine though if you insist."
"Ooooooooh! That's gonna be fun!" The imp giggle, Rexie leaned against the wall, hovering five feet in the air. Rexie picked up one of the video games on Jack's table. "Huh? In this game you play an evil overlord? Where's the fun in that? The fun comes when you're play as the hero, and you do every unheroic and psychotic thing that the game's mechanics let you do, while people around you still call you a hero!"
"Then be nice and benevolent in spite of being the evil and hateful dark overlord?" Jack offered.
Rexie blinked, "... Uh, good point. By the way, you told us that there needs to be light and dark in the world for choices to matter, and it'll be our job to fill in Morgonna's shoes, and when the light pushes us, we push back. I don't know how many goodie goodies we'll be dealing with, but we need at least one more to be a full adventuring party."
"Not counting my family, we might be outnumbered. But finding people who are willing to become non-human 'monsters' isn't easy," Jack said.
"Ohhh, I think I can find plenty of people 'willingly' to become imp! Wink wink." Rexie grinned, her mouth full of vicious fangs.
"No," Jack said. "They have to be ACTUALLY willing, not 'nominally willing.'" Jack pointed at Rexie. "You already had a heart screaming for chaos." He pointed at 'Maaya.' "You already were willing to give up everything you were to become what you are."
"Why not just pick some random internet troll? They feed off misery already," Maaya said.
"There are trolls inside computers?" Naive Rexie asked.
Jack and 'Maaya' both giggled at Rexie's 'innocence.'
Jack said, "Internet trolls can do what they do because they don't see the other person they're tormenting, they're just text on a screen to them, they're pathetic, but not like the two of you. If someone is to become part of our circle. They need to be aware of what they're giving up, and what they're gaining. And they have to make the choice of their own free will."
"Ya know," Rexie said surprisedly solemn suddenly. "There are plenty of innocent children on Earth who are already living in Hell, and won't survive to adulthood, and are treated as property instead of people, that people pretend don't exist. Let me, and I'll find them, and they'll eagerly become my sisters, and they'll bring Hell on those who used them. And my new family will be at your family's beck and call till this world's sun burns out."
Jack and 'Maaya' were stunned silent for a moment before looking at each other.
"I can't stop you," Jack said. "That was part of our agreement. Neither of you are bound to be except by your own choice. But that might fall under the 'agreement under duress' which is ALWAYS dangerous ground! And thus MIGHT NOT count as 'free will.'"
"Meh, I'll run it by yer mom. I get sisters to squabble with and play pranks on and play pranks with, and argue over who gets to cause what trouble, and share in the fun with," Rexie said clearly understanding what having siblings meant. "And she gets a prank of imps who owe her. Win-win for us both."
"You know, we could just go with a werewolf for our ranks," 'Maaya' said. "I know this little boy with cancer on Maaya's block. Kid is treated like a freak. Offer him to have a disease that'll make him something to be fear, instead of being afraid."
Jack shook his head. "Werewolves? No way! They aren't like the 'good old days' when it was a normal person switching out with a wild beserker once a month. These days it's just people with shape shifting superpowers who are a poor persecuted minority, no way they'll think of the 'classic' version. However, a wolf-were is a wolf-man beast that can take on a human appearance, maybe we can offer that instead, it hasn't been tainted by popular perception."
"I'll ask your mother then."
