CYOTF (Human)

Stuck in the Mid-Afterlife

Author note:
I plan on updating this story once a day. But people are free to add their pieces.

It s a good day today. The sun is shining shyly behind behind the clouds. The birds that don't even tweet in the afternoon are courageous enough to sing their tune. Even the daffodils, a flower I hate with a passion, are growing quite nicely. The only thing that sucks, is that I'm dead.

You heard that right. I'm dead. These alive things doing alive things is a huge spit in my current predicament. I want to scream in anguish, to which I recently did. But the problem with being dead, is that no one can hear you. And to be more general, no one can sense you.

The only thing I can do is float above my grave. Do a little sightsee here and there. Probably watch a person or two. I tried floating away from this god forsaken cemetery. But what happens is all the same. I kept finding myself back here.

All of that boring stuff changed when I met him. And by him I meant Henry. He's a little runt whose father passed away recently. I expected for a ghost to appear out of the casket. But like always, I'm the only ghost for miles.

Anyway, I see this boy crying. The boy was bawling. His snot bubble wasn't helping him look decent either. As he was crying, he caught a glimpse of me. A floating gray corpse laughing at him. From crying, he turned red and spat angry baby threats at me.

"Why are you laughing!?" he asked.

"Because you look ridiculous." I said. That's when it dawned in me. "Wait. You can see me?"

"Answer my question first."

"You. You can see me!?"

It turns out I never got to answer his question. But the good thing is, I had a friend. And this time, he's not made up.

Quite conveniently, Henry lived a few blocks away from here. His dad passed away and left him inheriting a creaky mansion along with ehr mother. Her mother on the other hand, is always busy on her business trips. Which leaves Henry with her old nanny who is too old to see him sneaking away. And by that gentlemen, is an example of a shitty family.

Maybe I had a family like that one in life. But I'll never know. I don't remember who I am nor why I'm stuck in that cemetery.

Now back to my relationship with this runt. Henry, as it turns out, was into the occult. Which is a terrible interest for getting along with people his age. So he is my only friend and that goes the same for him. He'd go by cemetery after his home school carrying his stuff. Mostly books and occult thingies he bought off IBay.

He'd drone off about what is the latest fad in the occult world. Like ghost stories and creepy pasta. Sometimes he would use me as a Guinea pig for his research notes. He'd take how tall I am or how far I can float. And as for today, we're taking a weird turn in the name of occult and science.

"Can you possess people?" he asked.

"Possess? What do you mean possess? Like do I own them?"

"What I meant was, you could like go into them and be like them. Control them from the inside."

"Everything you said is either weird or kinky."

"Well it's weird. But I've seen videos online about possessed people. Maybe you can do it too."

"And who do I possess Mr. Occult boy. Seeing as we're the only people around."

"Are you stupid. Of course, me!"
