Once inside, the cool tiles worked wonders as I slithered my way to my bedroom where the bathroom was. I was woozy, my vision swimming so much I had to rely more on my memories then my sight. I took a moment and tried breathing some more before I collapsed, tears welling in my eyes. The pain was unbearable as my whole body shuddered. I wanted to stop. I wanted to be human. I wish I was human again!
I wept loudly, every cry bringing another batch of pain and burning. This wasn’t what I wanted. This wasn’t what I had wished for! I wanted to be human! I wished to be human! Why wouldn’t it work? It had saved me once, why wouldn’t it save me again? I hammered at the ground in front of my double bed, so close to my goal and yet so far. I didn’t want to go on, it hurt too much. I looked upwards, trying to see through the blur and the tears. The bathtub was over there, a mere few meters away. I could imagine myself inside, pouring water all over me, feeling it slide over my skin, my scales, drowning my gills to stop the wildfire.
I grit my teeth and reached out with a grim-covered arm. Pull.Howl. Breathe. Again. Reach. Pull. Howl. Breathe. Again… I was barely going forward an inch at a time now. My body as a whole was being cremated, itching furiously, even worse than the pelican’s acid. How had I put myself in such a disastrous situation? I had only wanted to explore the ocean floors, see the wonders of the sea. Not be put on a pyre. My thumb touched a hard, cold surface and I weakly raised my head. The bathtub.
In an act of desperation as much as despair, I managed to make my arms climb over the edge of the tub and I pulled. I pulled harder than I had ever pulled in my life. Not only had I little to no strength left, this new body of mine weighed so much… After what felt like an eternity, I had managed to get my upper body on top of the bath. I grabbed at the water spout’s handles, fumbling in my haste and frustration. I could see no longer, a loud ringing noise had pervaded my entire hearing and I felt like my entire body would soon be gone into smoke. I managed to turn the knob and could hear water running. I immediately plunged my head into the stream.
