Notes From the GM: I deliberately didn’t include gender specific pronouns for Max in the previous Chapter, this was so that they could be interpreted as either or none. In this Chapter, and onwards, the gender of Max will be Male. The pronouns are obvious, but if you want to add another Chapter to the Original Page (The RPG Board Game) feel free to change Max’s starting gender. Also, the next chapter (after this one) will focus on the actual game. Feel free to read in its entirety.
Max hovered a hand above the latch of the box, preparing to open it. At that moment the doorbell rang.
Max walked away from the table and opened the door. Stood there was his friends, two of them, he had more coming.
Greg was a strong and tall boy who was always offered a place in the sports team at School, but always declined as he was never interested in wasting away his life with sport, instead he wasted away his life playing Dungeons and Dragons and other board games. In his free time he’d either be at school or working out to keep himself healthy and strong.
Next to him was his sister, Jenna, she had found interest about a year ago in her brothers games. She had always been great at chess since she was younger, but realised her passion for other skill based games. She was also excellent at Role-Playing.
Both the siblings had Maroon hair, naturally slightly tanned skin, and they both needed glasses. Greg wore contact lenses while Jenna wore physical ones.
Max greeted them and told them to take a seat, they sat next to each other, as usual. “So, what’s it called,” asked Jenna, clearly taking the question out of Greg’s mouth.
“I’m not sure, the store I went to was new, I think, and the guy gave me a discount,”
“Really??” Said Greg, not surprised, “did you scream and they felt bad again,” they both chuckled, and so did Max,
“Nope, he startled me rather than made me scream, but I got it for two dollars instead of twenty-something,”
They talked amongst themselves before another ring at the door was heard. Max opened it, he saw Rich, his cousin, he had jet black hair opposed to the light brown hair that Max had. His body was thin, no outstanding features. Max let him in and he greeted the siblings. As Max closed the door he saw a girl run up to the front door, Max wasn’t surprised.
His lifelong friend Veronica, she had dirty blonde hair, braces, but her face was pretty, others were amazed that Max hadn’t asked her out before, since they knew she’d say yes. Her mother was a model, her father was a film star. She had every opportunity to use her family to get what she wanted and take advantage of anyone, but she chose otherwise. She chose to stay inside and play video game after video game, board game after board game, she was the most Dorky girl any of them knew, and Role-Playing games were her speciality.
Max hugged her as she walked in a sat down. They all looked at the box on the table. Max then sat down, “So, as we are all here and hopefully intrigued and exited to try out this new game. I will say that I am in the same situation as you, I have no idea if this game if any good or not, but if it’s not, I guess we can all play another one. But, let’s give it a shot,” everyone looked from Max to the box. Before he even went to touch it, it unlatched itself.
