The Twilight Years

added by Anon 4 years ago O

“What about that old couple over there?” Katie asked, pointing towards an elderly couple. “They seem like interesting characters.”

“I don’t know...” Kellie said. “They’re kind of obnoxious and they’ll probably become a problem for us.”

“Why don’t we go check them out first?” Katie suggested. “That way we’ll see if we should change them both, change one, or just leave them be.”

“Alright.” Kellie said. “Let’s go tend to the elderly!”

Katie and Kellie made their way to the elderly couple who were sitting in chairs by the ocean. One was a bald old man in his late 70s and the other was a plump old woman with short white hair in her mid 70s. The man was wearing a trashy Hawaiian shirt and his wife wore typical elderly woman attire. As the girls came closer to the couple they managed to over hear an argument they were having.

“Damn it, Joana!” The old man exclaimed as he swung his cane around. “Why did you drag me all the way to this beach filled with stupid young people?!” Joana sighed. “Now George, we both agreed that we’d spend the day at the beach.” George grit his teeth. “I don’t remember ever agreeing to that, woman!”
“George you can’t even remember breakfast.” Joana responded. George stood up from his seat.
“I’ll have you know I remember a lot of things, ESPECIALLY from Vietnam!”

“Excuse me, did you just you were in Vietnam?” Katie asked, thus getting her and Kellie into the conversation. George began to light up after he heard this while Joana just looked incredibly worried. “As I matter of fact I did, little lady.” George bragged, and then he noticed how close Kellie was to Katie. “Say, you two wouldn’t happen to be a pair of fruity homosexuals now, would you?”

“George!” Joana scolded. Katie and Kellie immediately backed up from each other. “Uh nope! We’re just good friends!” Katie responded with some nervousness in her voice. George let out a sigh of relief. “Good, because if you were I’d have to beat chia with my walking stick! That fruit bowl business just ain’t natural.” He proclaimed as his wife hid her face with her hands. “So any way, there I was in the rice paddies when all of a sudden...” George froze, his face turning into a face of fear. “...and then... GOD DAMN CHARLIE CAME OUT OF THE-“ he exclaimed as he dropped to the ground as if avoiding enemy gunfire and began to use his cane as a rife which included making gun sound effects with his mouth. “God damn it not again.” Joana said as she came close to George. “George... George! The war is over!” She told the man as he was having an episode. After a while he eventually stopped. “What happened? I blacked out.” He said at last.

“I am sorry you had to see that, girls.” Joana said at last. “When ever my George goes on about his time in the war, his PTSD could kick in at any time.” George became a little flustered. “Damn it, Joana! Don’t go telling strangers about my weakness!”

“It’s no big deal.” Kellie responded. “Oh I don’t think we’ve introduced ourselves yet. I’m Kellie and this here is my friend Katie.”

“Well I’m pretty sure you know our names from our little lovers quarrel and... special episode.” Joana responded. “I must apologize for my husband’s rash behavior. Ever since that damn war, he just hasn’t been the same.”

“So you two met before the war?” Katie asked. “Yes, we met just a few years before he got drafted when we were about your age.” Joana replied. “He was a much kinder and caring soul back when we started dating, but after the war he just became so cold and automated.” George raised an eyebrow. “Woman, what nonsense are you spreading now? If you’re trying to say you’re gonna leave me for sensitive little liberal, then I guess I need to remind you no little liberal’s gonna want your ancient ass!”

“And what is that supposed to mean, George?!” Joana snapped as the two began to get into another argument. Katie and Kellie backed away from the arguing elders to discuss their next course of action.

“Well, that happed.” Katie said with a bit of astonishment. “So you got any ideas on what to do with these two, Kellie?”

Kellie smiled. “As a matter of fact I do.”
