Emily watched as the two women chatted and when she made sure neither were looking she walked towards the front door. She walked up to the garbage men, asked to get something from their truck, and then held her breath as she fished for the camera. She yanked it out with a slight sigh of relief. She quickly went back inside as the garbage men watched her confused.
She shut the door in a hurry and quickly bolted down the hall to her little work closet. There she hid the camera under her cleaning supplies and then went back to mixing drinks. The entire time she felt guilty not telling Rebecca what she did but Emily just couldn't shake the feeling that their lives are supposed to be different.
After a quick hand wash she brought their drinks out and waited there as the two women chatted. Emily noticed that Rebecca seemed a little on edge and was gulping down her drink. Emily was confused until she realized that Rebecca must've been feeling what she was feeling and was trying to brush it off.
Suddenly Little Liv began to cry as Dalia attempted to sooth her. After a minute she realized what was wrong and handed her to Emily. "Emily dear could you put Olivia down for her nap?" She asked in a way that implied it was rhetorical.
Emily nodded as she walked back inside carrying the fussy baby. She placed the baby down in her crib and gave her a little bear to hold. Emily sighed as she walked back to her closet and shut the door.
"I want to use that stupid camera." She thought. "But, like, I don't know how it works!"
She began to pace as her thoughts drifted towards what her life could've been like. Maybe she was a nurse, or maybe she was smart? Or maybe she was a boy? She shuddered at that last thought and huffed while sliding down the wall. She knew she needed to try, but how would she go about doing it?
