Both goo girls rippled nervously in their combined puddle as the janitor came to a stop. The sound of boots drew closer to the bucket. Colin considered making a break for it, but she suddenly heard a “voice” in her mind.
[Stay still! The guards won’t recognize us.]
Colin tried sending a message back. [Josephine? Are we talking telepathically?]
[Looks like it. I guess being mixed together lets us do this.]
[Cool, I guess. By the way, can we change color? I think the guards might get suspicious if this bucket’s full of green slime.]
[No harm in trying.]
Instantly, their green color faded until they looked like nothing more than water. Right then, the guards reached the janitor and began questioning him. Of course, he knew nothing, insisting the cells were empty when he arrived. Nobody noticed anything odd about the water in the mop bucket. Finally, the guards let the janitor go and sounded a general alarm about the escaped prisoners.
As the janitor wheeled the bucket to the supply closet, Colin “spoke” again. [We should get out of here. There’s bound to be a security video of our transformation.]
[Good idea. Let’s go.]
Once the janitor had left the supply closet, the liquid in the bucket turned green again and rose out of the bucket.
[Uh-oh,] said Josephine.
[What?]
[We may have another problem.]
