St. Patrick's Day in Dublin

added by Alphagor 4 years ago O

Animalia Ambassadoria's stay at Lord Chumlee's estate was rather brief, only spending a night and a day. It was just long enough to get a good look at his estate's grounds, the uncovered ruins, and see what will be built for the Animalia colony. But the team of ambassadors had another stop before they could go home. The flight from London to Dublin was not nearly as long as getting to London from Nevada. The mayor of Dublin himself was there to greet them at the airport, along with a few other officials in the city. Because the hour was so late, the teens were soon taken to a fine hotel. Accommodations for Abby and Samson were not as hard as at Lord Chumlee's house, though there weren't any beds that could hold the weight of two horses. Which wasn't as much of a problem as the boys and girls were roomed separately here.

The next morning, the crew got up, making sure to dress up in green, before heading to meet the mayor for a hearty Irish breakfast. Unsurprisingly, there were a lot potatoes being served, which suited well for the vegetarian Animalians in the group. As soon as they were finished, they were escorted a pavilion set up for them so they could watch the St. Patrick's Day parade march by. The mayor himself couldn't be with them as he was marching in the parade. But his aide was there to answer any questions the Americans teens had.

"Kinda disappointed that we're not marching the parade ourselves," said Fred.

"Are you kidding?" asked Ronald, "I'd much rather watch a parade than march one any day. Can you imagine how sore your feet would be?"

The parade started out well enough, with plenty of officials marching up. But then the fire brigade marched along, followed by a bagpipe band playing loudly. "Wait a moment," said Katherine, having to talk loudly to be heard, "I thought bagpipes were a Scottish thing."

"Ireland and Scotland has had a lotta interaction for centuries," said the mayor's aide, "We've influenced each other quite o' bit. In fact, Ulster in the north is mainly settled by immigrated Scots."

"But I thought Ireland and Scotland hated each other," said Katherine.

"All in the past," said the aide, "Still, it wouldn't be a wise idea to mix the two o' them up, especially where an Irishman or Scotsman can hear ye."

There were also policemen on horses and walking dogs. The horses and dogs tended to stare a bit in the direction of the group, particularly their Animalian counterparts. But they trained well enough to keep going at the bidding of their riders and handlers. Then came a few floats, some with plenty of flowers. There was a series of marchers and floats that were done in a snow and ice motif. "Tis meant to represent the passin' o' winter," explained the aide.

There were quite a few marching bands of various groups, mostly representing schools. There were some impressive floats, some that appeared to be based on the giants of Irish legend, three floats of a giant squid, a giant sea turtle, and a whale, and some floats representing the sun with similarly-themed dancers going before it. And of course, many marchers and dancers dressed like flowers and representing the coming of spring.

After the parade, there was time enough for Animalia Ambassadoria to have lunch before their flight back to the States. For that, they were taken to one of Dublin's finest pubs. It was a very old pub, one that preceded the founding of the United States. Of course, since they were all underage, they didn't actually get alcoholic beverages. But pubfare by itself wasn't bad.

"I'm kinda wondering, would alcohol really be bad for us?" asked Abby.

"From what I've seen, it's not too good for anyone," said Samson.

"But we've got the bodies of mature adults, not to mention with our mass it would take a lot to cause any real damage," said Abby.

"Then perhaps ye'd like a wee nip for St. Patty's Day," said the barman, handing Abby a small glass of green-dyed Guinness.

Abby looked at the small glass and said, "Well, when in Ireland..."

"Abby, I wouldn't-" started Jessica, but Abby had already taken a big sip.

Abby's eyes soon bugged out and she let out a weak-sounding wicker. There were plenty of pub patrons who laughed at Abby's rather comical expression. Quite a few of her party were also laughing and taking pictures. Abby coughed and said a bit hoarsely, 'Those better not end up on Instagram or something."

"Oh, I think PR-MD would love them," said Malice with her trademark mischievous grin.

"I guess you won't be having any wild drunken parties in college then," said Sarah.

After lunch, it was time to head to the airport and taking the flight back to Lyre, Nevada. It shouldn't be as long as their initial flight to London, but there may still be a lot of changeovers. But their brief if memorable tour of the United Kingdom did have some good memories and plenty for them to work with back home. But now they had to get back and take part in the Spring Carnival.
