About 5 minutes or so after the "mouse fiasco", everything had calmed down and returned to normal. Jen and Claire helped Josephine and Jacob into the living room so they could sit down on something more comfortable. Jen helped Josephine into an armchair that was nearby the window while Claire helped Jacob into the armchair that was situated next to the one Josephine was now sitting in. Jen and Claire then proceeded to sit down on the couch across from the pair. Tad was about to take a seat next to his mom and Claire when the doorbell rang.
"That must be Amy," Tad said. The young man made his way out of the living room and over to the front door. He opened the door and smiled when he saw Amy standing on the other side.
“Sorry if I’m a little late,” she apologized as she stepped inside and kissed Tad on the cheek. “I got caught up in a bit of a family argument. My mom is in support of Mr. Herald’s plan to reveal the Were secret while my dad is a bit hesitant to accept it. From there, things turned into a bit of a heated debate over how one was right and the other was wrong.”
“Yeesh, sounds like you were having fun,” Tad joked, closing the front door behind Amy. “Anyway, follow me into the living room.” He proceeded to walk into the living room with Amy right behind him before clearing his throat to get his grandparents’ attention.
“Grandma Josephine, Grandpa Jacob,” he said. “I’d like you to meet Amy Howler, my girlfriend.”
Amy proceeded to walk over to where Josephine was sitting before holding out her hand. “It’s very nice to meet you ma’am,” she said, smiling politely.
Josephine smiled back and shook Amy’s extended hand. “And it’s very nice to meet you as well, young lady,” she said.
“Tad’s told us all about you,” Jacob said as Amy turned to him for a handshake. “After hearing so much, we couldn’t wait to meet you for ourselves!” He chuckled softly before asking, “So how was it that you two met? My grandson never got around to telling us that part.”
“Oh, it was the day Tad and his mom moved in,” she said. My family was moving in to a new house down the street on the same day. We’ve lived in Moon Lake all my life, but until that point, we had been staying in an apartment on the other side of town. My parents were able to rent out a house after they both received promotions. I was walking out of the house on the way to the bus stop when Tad jogged over to me from across the street. From there, we just...hit it off.”
“Ah, young love,” Josephine sighed happily. “Such a wonderful thing.”
“If you two are right for each other, you’ll be together for the rest of your lives,” Jacob said. “So you better treat each other with respect, you hear?”
“Of course Grandpa,” Tad said with a nod.
“Good. Now, if you don’t mind me changing the subject a bit, what do you think of the exposure of Weres to the outside world?”
“Oh..well…” Amy said, thinking for a minute. “Personally, I’m a bit of a mixed bag on the topic. On one hand, it would be amazing not to have to hide who I am anymore. I wouldn’t have to go about my life worrying about this massive secret anymore. But at the same time, I’m a bit nervous. What if the world doesn’t accept us? Will there be people who support us and help us try to live in peace with Normals?”
“I’m sure there will be people to support Weres,” Tad said, putting a hand on Amy’s shoulder. “Not everyone will at first, but with enough time, the world will accept us.”
Amy nodded in agreement. “Let’s hope that day comes soon though,” she said with a smile.
