"You finally woke up."
Edwin saw his sister's face too close to his. She seemed sad, almost crying and although he didn't know why, he just wanted to make her smile again. However, he felt so tired right now to be doing anything.
"You moron, why did you choose that?!!" She yelled at her brother and some tears began to drop from her eyes to Edwin's chest. That's when he realized he was having problems to breathe and move, it was if his life was leaving. He didn't reply to his sister, he just raised a hand and cleaned the tears from her face.
"Life is short." Edwin whispered with a small smile in face. He stared at his hands on his sister faces, wrinkles and skin spots caught his attention. Fragile bones and almost non-existent muscles made him cry a little.
"I love you, big brother." Dawn told him while she left the bed where his brother was resting. She took a phone and called to the room service. Edwin can't hear what she was saying but she sounded sad and worried. He understood why but he didn't expect it'll be a big deal for his sister. He was the old man not her.
"A nurse is coming." Dawn said after she hung down the phone. "They feel so bad for their mistake and they're going to give a complete service for free. I know it doesn't compensate their mistake but I'm not in the mood for a legal conflict. I called mom and dad too, they're coming but they'll take a while because it's difficult to take a plane to here, you know."
Edwin was so tired that he felt asleep at Dawn's midsentence. She didn't get mad or anything, she sighed and began to inspect her brother's body, looking for an injury or something that could hurt him. His body was so fragile that she was afraid of breaking it just by touching it.
After she made sure her brother was comfortable, she sat on a chair next to her brother's bed and stared at him for a while. Although, he was incredible older, she can see some innocence in him, she remembered the times when he protected her as a big brother use to do, and now he was helpless that he needed her protection.
Despite, all the years between 16 and 90, Edwin didn't seem bigger nor taller, in fact, he was kinda smaller. The young healthy muscles were no more and it was barely noticeable that he has muscles at all. His bones were way more on display, giving him a skeletal look that just a super model could envy. The perfect skin he was proud of was wrinkled and full of spots, his elasticity had left and it looked more like paper than anything. Last but not least, his hair had lost all his color and noe it was white as milk. Fortunately for him, he wasn't bald but his hairs had definitely thinned and his hairline had receded a lot too. Although it wasn't completely visible, thin white hairs had appeared on his forearms, chest and back. His legs used to be hairy but didn't use to be so hairy in his ears and nose. These ones had also grown bigger and longer, so it wasn't too weird they had more space for hair.
"Good morning, mr. and miss. Dias" A nurse greeted them while she entered through the main door. "I'm here to take care of mr. Dias until..." She stopped talking when she saw Dawn's sad expression. "We're working too hard to find a way to turn him back to normal. It's the first time this happens."
Dawn didn't reply or yell or anything, she just sat on the chair next to Edwin's bead and said. "You can start by giving him a sponge bath. You know how poorly hygienic the teen boys are."
