A little bit before Amy arrived at Tad's house to meet his paternal grandparents, she had been sitting at the kitchen table while her mother was putting the finishing touches on the family's breakfast. Next to her sat Jay and Leon, who both had a serious case of bed hair. Leon, who was seemingly unaware of how bad his hair was, was currently attempting to fix his twin brother's hair.
"Stay still Jay!" Leon said, licking his hand and trying to pat down a patch of hair that was sticking up on Jay's head. Jay continued to move his head away from Leon's hand.
"Stop it!" Jay exclaimed. "I can fix it myself later!"
"Boys, break it up," Gary Howler said as he walked down the stairs into the kitchen. "It's too early in the morning for you two to be fighting already."
Leon moved his hand away from Jay's head. "Sorry dad, sorry Jay" he apologized. "I was just trying to help."
"How about you worry about fixing your own hair first?" Amy chimed in. "Your hair is just as bad as Jay's! How about you two just go into the bathroom and look for yourselves?" The twins nodded and got out of their chairs, walking into the bathroom and shutting the door behind them. A minute later, Elizabeth Howler brought over Gary and Amy's plates, which had scrambled eggs, a piece of buttered toast, and three pieces of bacon each.
"Thanks sweetie," Gary said, kissing his wife on the cheek before she walked back into the kitchen to get her plate. Before he started eating though, Gary turned to Amy and said "So I heard that you were at the Town Meeting last night."
Amy nodded as she swallowed a a bite of her toast. "Yeah, I went with Tad," she responded. "I take it that you've heard what it was about?"
Gary Howler nodded and took a sip of his coffee. "I have," he said. "I can't say that I'm entirely in support of it though."
"And why is that dear?" Elizabeth asked as she put her plate down at the table next to where Gary was sitting.
"It's not exactly a good idea right now," he said, taking a bite of his eggs. "With everything that's going on in the world, who knows how people will react. People would go on a riot thinking that the government has been hiding this secret from them for hundreds of years."
"Surely people would have more common sense than that," Elizabeth suggested. "I, for one, am in support of Mr. Herald's ideas."
"He hasn't been a Were for long enough, nor was he born here," Gary said. "Give him some time and he'll stop trying to expose Weres."
"And what is that supposed to mean? I wasn't born here either."
"That's my point. The Weres outside of Moon Lake don't get how good we have it here."
"That doesn't make any sense Gary!"
"Look, all I'm saying is that I want the best for our children, and I think that the best course of action would be that the Were secret remains," Gary stated.
"And you don't think I want the best for them as well!?" Elizabeth nearly shouted. "Wouldn't 'the best for our children' be that they don't have to hide who they are from the rest of the world?!"
At this point, Amy had finished her breakfast and quickly got up from the table, not being noticed by either of her parents. She put her plate in the sink and made her way towards the front door.
"I'm going over to Tad's," she shouted. "Be back in a few hours." She proceeded to quickly open the front door, step outside, and shut it behind her, breathing a sigh of relief now that her surroundings were somewhat quiet.
