"Well, Chadbot," said Micah, "Let's see run some diagnostics to make sure you're in peak condition for tomorrow's Science Fair."
Science Fair? That's not for two months, thought Chad. He wasn't in the field house anymore, and he didn't remember moving. Crap, Micah said something about reprogramming Chad. Had the bastard done that? Had he deleted Chad's memories of the last two months? What had happened during that time?
Digital display flickered, "DIAGNOSTICS PROGRAM RUNNING" it read in Orange Letters across his field of vision. Crap, the words were in his eyes. Was he even still human? Any bit? Or was it only the memory of being human that was preserved. Maybe it was a stunt? Or trick? Bing. "Hydraulic sub systems, optimal." Bing. "Memory Storage Optimized." Bing. "Battery Power Optimized." And so on. Bing. Bing. Bing. Bing. All his components were being tested and optimized. Lord, this was so boring.
"Micah, don't you think you should come up with another name for your robot? I, mean, Chad's only been missing for two months," said Bruno.
Micah sighed. He wished he hadn't involved Bruno, but he needed an athlete to help workout some of the programming, and to test the Chadbot on. He needed someone to do football plays with the Chadbot. So he had recruited Bruno.
"Listen, Bruno, there are going to be representatives from a half dozen tech companies tomorrow at the Science Fair. After Chadbot wins first place, I will have a bidding war for the bot. I had already sent them preliminary specs calling it Chadbot months ago, I cannot just change the name now."
