Backtracking a bit...
Martha Anderson awoke to see her husband staring at her with a smile on his face.
Not unusual for a happily married couple, but the considering he was a werefox and she a werecat, that would not be considered "normal" to the majority of the world outside of Moon Lake, Washington state.
"Good morning darling," said Martha, returning his smile. "How long have you been awake?"
"Not long. Just taking in the sight of the beautiful woman within my life and heart along with how much I love and appreciate you, let alone how big a fool I was to risk everything we have back in Minnesota before moving here and—"
"Sshh," she purred, before kissing him. "That's all over now. What matters is today, and the future."
But before William could reply, the clock radio came on according to its preset alarm.
"Good Morning Moon Lake!" said the announcer. "It's six a.m. at KMLC, Moon Lake College Radio, and here are the top stories we're following for you at this hour. Local buzz continues over the town meeting scheduled for tonight, since there was nothing originally planned and an agenda has not been formally announced. Yet all citizens who can are urged to attend. Elsewhere—"
But that didn't matter to the Andersons as William reached over with one paw and turned off the radio.
"That's about all anyone talked about at college yesterday," he commented, snuggling back against his wife.
"I had some lady call the house yesterday wanting to know if we'd be going tonight," replied Martha, while enjoying the warmth of his furry body against hers.
"Did she have anything to add about it?" he asked.
"Only said something about it concerning the future of Moon Lake."
"Makes one wonder."
"Everything's all right, isn't it?" asked Martha, a bit concerned.
"As far as I know," was William's only answer. "After all, if there was something to truly worry about, I'd think Samantha would give us a head's up, right?" he asked, referring to their next door neighbor, who was Moon Lake's Town Chancellor.
"I guess," said Martha. "Or at least, I'd like to think she would, if she could."
Then feline eyes stared deeply into vulpine eyes as she added, "This family was such a mess before we moved here. The two of us were hardly speaking to each other. Both Nate and I were denying our true natures, and Eric was so shy, I'm surprised he wasn't afraid of his own shadow. But now..."
"I know dear," said William, holding his wife closer to him. "Thanks to the life/soul mate bond I formed with you becoming a werefox, there is no way I could ever hurt you again, even unintentionally. Our marriage is even better now than before I originally lost interest and cheated on you," he observed, before kissing her.
When their muzzles parted, he added, "I had so much and almost lost everything. Never again," promised William.
"Except when I willingly share my ladies with you since I've stopped denying my bi side," said Martha with a mischievous smile on her face. "But you're right about how good Moon Lake has been to us. Nate's not only come out and admitted he's gay, but has found love and acceptance with his boyfriend Alex Ramsey. And Eric..."
"That did concern me for awhile," admitted her husband. "After all, he's only 14. Yet he and Julie Stovall truly do love each other. Her parents explained to us how, instead of being just hopeful wishes, love at first sight and happily forever after are actual, proven scientific concepts. At least for were-mers."
"Of which our Eric is now a proud member of," observed Martha. "But even if Julie was a normal human being and he didn't join were society in any capacity, she's still been very good to Eric. His true love."
"Like you're mine," said William, before kissing his wife again.
When their lips parted this time, Martha looked at him and said, "So, do you want to go to that meeting tonight? Nate will be with Alex and Eric with Julie. So unless there's something else you'd rather do since we'll be alone," she purred, snuggling closer to him.
"I'm thinking maybe we'd should, at least to see what all the fuss is about. You?" he asked in return.
"My feline curiosity's been piqued," admitted Martha, as she yawned and stretched. "But we don't have to make a final decision until you get home from work for the day," she added, getting out of bed.
Looking at the clock, Martha added, "You still have time to take a shower while I get dressed and start fixing breakfast. The kids should be getting up for the day," as she started picking out clothes to wear before defurring to get dressed.
"All right," agreed William, getting up to head for the bathroom. "But we are going to have some private time together this weekend, my sexy kitty," he promised.
"Flattery will get you everything I have to offer Mister Anderson," purred Martha.
"And I love it all, and you too Mrs. Anderson," said her husband in return, before going to take a shower.
