Trodding along you pace around your uncle's house. You're unsure of what to check out in your uncles farm, or ranch as it is now. Speaking of what this place is actually called, you see some small fields with crops currently being watered by sprinklers. Not so very far away from the farm was a large forest, right at the edge of civilised land eh? You feel like taking a good walk today, all those hours in the car and those damned long traffic jams has made your joints a little stiff. a small walk in the forest wouldn't hurt nobody. And, who knows? you might find a small lake with fresh water somewhere inside that huge looking forest.
speaking of the forest, it didn't seem to have any sort of fence which is a very odd thing to see in kansas. but you didn't mind, only meant an easier time taking a walk. Oddly enough the forest seemed like it was half a mile away like your uncles house, but it took only a few minutes and you were there. you didn't mind of course, the temperature was killing you. you stand in front of the forest border and gaze into the beauty of mother nature. ''If yer going into the forest, boy, then be sure to get back by 2! And follow the road!'' You hear coming from over by the ranch, looking over, you see uncle norman waving. you wave back to confirm your current desire.
'road?' you wonder, looking around on the forest border you see a little treadded path leading into the forest. Norman and his friends must have prepared a path to walk after your last visit. walking down the road you feel the searing heat cool down, much to your existensial relief as you trudge down the road deeper into the forest. You check your cells clock. 12:15 you guessed you'd be back by maybe half 2? you haven't been into this forest before, so you could only guess.
--4 minutes later--
to your great comfort, the temperature has seemed to lessen the deeper you went into the forest. although you were following a small road made by your uncle and co so you weren't sure how far this went neither did you know if they had installed hidden AC's or anything. feeling curious, you fish up your cell from your wet shorts and looked at the time, 12:19. You unlocked your cell and opened a weather app that didn't need coverage, 29*? humidity 12. wierd, but you didn't mind too much. Until you saw fog begin to form, clouding your vision far away.
This felt creepy, and unnatural, the calming feeling of a cold breeze against your piping hot (and now dry) shirt was gone, the distant sound of crickets and the calming chirping of birds were also gone. All replaced by an eerie dead silence as the dense fog came closer, and closer... you were now panicking, this fog was not natural, everything that was currently happening was unnatural, a bone chilling feeling of dread shook you to the core as the temperature became colder, and the fog came closer. you then noticed that the road was gone, along with all the flowers, fallen leaves, mounds of dirt.
now all that was left was the unnaturally flat earth, the cold trees with leaves that didn't even move one centimeter. And then there was you, a lone boy lost in the woods trapped in an unnatural fog with partially dry summer clothes. you fumbled up your cellphone, -9999999999999*C? impossible, everything was wrong. your cells clock was unreadable as it seemed to be experiencing many, many errors and glitches at the same exact time,111:67, 33:33 00:-46 and other jumbles of nonsense. hurriedly you put your phone back into your shorts in hopes that they would survive whatever was about to happen.
you start panicking more and more as the fog comes closer like a circular crusher, up above the sun was blocked by gray skies and more fog condensing above. your breath becomes more rapid as every second passes uneventfully. then the cold reveals itself as you seem to breath fog of your own. you start shivering as the temperature drops ever more. in one panicked decision you sprint into the ever closing fog as you feel rather sleepy, panic consumes you as you shout after help, but your own panic betrays you as you lose consiousness and fall towards the ground.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your eyes shoot open as you regain consiousness and your dart up in your bed. wait, bed? Scanning your surroundings you recognise that you're in your room in uncle Normans home. quickly dismissing the events you experienced in the forest as a dream, you bring your hands up to your chins but quickly feels something off.
looking at your body you see that you've become...
