The sheer size of the book makes it hard to figure out where to start. You flip through the pages for a bit, before eventually landing on a section dedicated to the red fox - Vulpes vulpes. It’s a pretty familiar animal, so you might as well begin reading here.
As you skim through the information listed in the book, deciphering the neat cursive and carefully-made sketches, your attention is drawn to the paw print on the second page. It’s inked almost perfectly onto the page, as if a real fox had dipped its paw into ink and printed it onto the page. Curious, you place your hand onto it…
Suddenly, you feel an electric shock coarsing through your body! You let out a loud yelp, yanking your hand away. As your try to figure out what just happened, your body is suddenly struck by a horrible itching sensation.
You grunt and groan as the itching becomes more intense, the book slipping from your hand as you scratch all over your body. A strange, prickly sensation forms on the backs of your hands and arms. Looking down, you see that black hairs are sprouting all over your hands, while reddish ones start to grow and spread up your arms. Your fingers are shortening as your fingernails turn black, lengthening into small claws. As your palms thicken into pads, you’re forced to grit your teeth as your canines sharpen into fangs.
You feel twitchy and weird as your body structure shifts and crackles, changing to fit that of a fox. As you drop to your knees, the fur rapidly sprouts across the rest of your body, colored reddish-orange on your back and white on your chest. Your ears become big, furry and pointed, sliding up the sides of your head. Suddenly, you’re forced down onto your hands and knees as a large, fluffy fox’s tail bursts through the back of your pants.
Your feet snap uncomfortably into a digitigrade stance, causing you to stand on your toes. They’re coated in itchy black fur, forming another set of claws and pads. Silky white whiskers sprout from the sides of your face, which is sprouting orange fur above your jaw and white fur below it. Finally, your nose and mouth stretch forwards into a vulpine muzzle, and your nose turns black, wet and cold.
You manage to struggle out of your clothing, staring at the book in shock. You’ve been turned into a red fox!
