Curiosity got the better of Roy, and he next pointed the high-tech toy directly at himself and pushed the button.
There was no puff of smoke, no dazzling lights, and no sound of thunder. Quietly and instantly, history was re-written and reality changed.
Roy suddenly found himself standing outside the door to the women's restroom with a bundle of clothes under his arm.
He looked down to examine himself. He was still physically male, but was now dressed in the same clothes Jessica had just been wearing... somehow re-sized to perfectly fit Roy's larger, masculine body. He was wearing a gray tank top with a thin, lavender bra strap peeking out from beneath. He had on a tight-fitting pair of blue jeans and Jessica's ankle socks and girly tennis shoes. Roy felt a strange new weight on the back of his head and knew his hair had grown out to the length Jessica's had been. He could also feel the strange sensation of a pair of earrings now dangling from his earlobes. His face felt different too, and he strongly suspected he now had a thick coat of lipstick, mascara, and eyeliner on him.
“Morning, Jessica!” said a familiar voice.
Momentarily stunned, Roy spun around in panic at being dressed like a girl in the crowded restaurant lobby. Turning around, he found himself face-to-face with the real Jessica Draper – now dressed in Roy's work uniform. The name tag on her shirt clearly read: Roy Milford. She was still physically female (though obviously no longer wearing a bra!)... but her hair was now much shorter and styled in the same sloppy, masculine way Roy's hair had been.
Had the device really worked, thought Roy. Does she actually believe she's me, he wondered.
“Uh, morning... Roy,” he said to Jessica.
