Roy pointed the device at an open box of cereal sitting at the table and pressed the button.
At first nothing seemed to happen.
Then Roy squinted and took a closer look at the box of cereal. Where just moments before there had been a colorful, cartoon frog... now there was a picture of Sarah Howard, smiling and holding a bowl of cereal in her hand. In fact, the logo on the box had now changed. It now read “Sarah Howard” instead of “Frosted Crunchies.”
Roy took a step into the kitchen, eager to inspect the box closer. That's when a horse, croacking voice suddenly startled him.
“Morning Roy!” said the voice. “Is Jack up yet?”
Roy spun around and saw a life-size version of the cartoon frog from the cereal box... only somehow brought to life and now standing at the oven, making scrambled eggs. Although the frog was roughly the same size as Sarah had been, it did not wear any of her clothes. It was dressed in a jaunty little sailor's cap and blue-and-white striped shirt... but no pants. The frog seemed realistic enough – just human sized and now capable of human facial expressions (and speech).
“What's the matter?” the frog said. “Cat got your tongue?”
“Uh... Sarah?” Roy asked hesitantly.
“The box is there on the table,” replied the frog. “I know how much you like your Sarah Howard in the morning. Before you dig in, could you ask Jack to get up?... oh, nevermind, there you are honey!”
Roy spun around and saw his bleary-eyed roommate Jack Sutton emerge into the room.
“Morning Crunchy!” said Jack, kissing the frog on the mouth. “Breakfast smells great. Thanks for cooking.”
“Anything for my boyfriend!” replied the frog, blushing a deeper shade of green.
“This is so weird,” whispered Roy to himself.
