Cailin sighed as the elevator went up.
"Now is our opportunity to slip through the second security measure." Cailin said robotically.
"Are you sure we won't get caught?" Earl asked.
"I can preform system hacks more than once, you know." Cailin blankly replied.
"Alright, here I go..." Earl said.
The schlub headed down the hall, taking a left at the cross section and jogging up some flights of stairs.
And there it was: the second checkpoint, with two burly guys standing guard.
"Please proceed to the checkpoint." Cailin said.
Earl straightened himself out and took a few steps forward.
"Hello there." a guard in body armor said as he stepped in the way.
Earl yelped in surprise and stumbled backwards.
"Sid, buddy... saw you check in... where you been, man?" the guard asked.
Earl froze up with an "Uhhhhhhhhhh..."
"Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh?" the guard asked.
"The prisoner's quarters! Yeah! I was checkin' in on the prisoners! G-Gotta love checkin' in on those prisoners!" Earl stammered like a moron with an awkward laugh.
'We're fucked.' Cailin thought.
"Funny.... you were supposed to sign out about a couple hours ago... but you never did? Weird." the guard said.
"Oh, yah know, stuff happens and I... forgot! Yep, I forgot to sign out!" Earl lied with the confidence of a kid who broke his parents' vase.
"Aren't you supposed to be in for an inspection right now?" the guard asked.
"Oh yeah, you see I forgot.,... forgot... a thing! Yes, a thing!" Earl said as he dug himself deeper.
"What kind of thing?" the guard asked.
"Oh you know, an inspection thing?" Earl nervously laughed.
He was backed into a darkened room.
"Save it... I know exactly why you're here..." the guard said with a menacing grin.
"Y-You do?" Earl asked.
"Yeah...." the guard said.
