“Oh, no!” sighed Paul's mom. “Not tomorrow morning.”
“Why?” asked a clueless Paul. “What's the matter with pretending to be each other just until then? I promise I can switch the two of you back to normal. I'm really on the verge of finally understanding almost everything in this spellbook. Just gimme a few hours. By tomorrow, I'll have it for sure!”
“You really don't know what today is, do you?” asked Paul's mom.
“Uh... no, Mom. Sorry,” Paul answered.
“It's your father's and my anniversary,” answered Paul's mom. “Your dad and I have a date tonight. We've got reservations at La Bella Noche.”
“Not that snooty Italian restaurant,” said Paul wrinkling up his nose in disgust.
“It's the most romantic place in town,” answered Paul's mom. “And it took months to get reservations. It's a very special evening. And I want my own life back in time for dinner tonight.”
Paul grinned silently and turned to face Tim.
“Uh oh,” answered Tim. “I don't like that look.”
“Timmy,” said Paul. “You're gonna have to go on a date with my dad tonight. It's... it's your anniversary!”
“No,” said Tim flatly. “And don't call me Timmy!”
“He's right,” answered Paul's mom glumly. “Call him 'Kathy' now.”
“What're you two talking about?” shrieked Tim in a panic. “I'm not going on a romantic date with some old dude!”
“You have to, Tim,” said Paul's mom. “I'll help you get ready. Y'know, do your make-up, style your hair, help you get dressed and pick out jewelry.”
“No way!” protested Tim.
“Great plan,” said Paul, completely ignoring Tim. “I'll stay up here in the attic and keep working on deciphering spells. I know there's got to be a reverse spell in here somewhere. Mom, you'd better go back to Timmy's house and pretend to be him. Maybe an hour or so before your date, you can drop by 'to visit me'... and secretly help Timmy get dolled up for his date. And with a little luck, maybe I can even find a reverse spell just in time!”
“I don't believe this is happening,” said Tim, hanging his head in humiliation.
