With pen firmly in hand, Dave pushed his office door open and braced for some sort of shocked reaction. Martha, who had a cube just across from his office, grinned and said "Finally coming out of your office? We were starting to think you were taking a nap." George, who had the cube next to her, poked his head up long enough to add "He doesn't have his binky - no nap." Both returned to work as if the joking references to his apparent age were normal.
"Dave!" A familiar voice made him turn to see his own boss, Carolyn, approaching with her iPad. "The Litton Industries folks moved up the meeting to 2 PM. Will you be ready?" She held her iPad down for him to see the meeting alert. "I can get the room set up early if you want to go through the presentation."
"Um, I'm twelve years old?" Dave knew he had specified that he was to be treated the same, but even so, it was weird.
""Yeah, yeah." Carolyn rolled her eyes. "Kidnapped by aliens and returned as a permanent prepubescent. Hasn't stopped you before. Is there something about the Litton deal that has you worried?"
"Uh, no." Dave was fascinated by this turn of events. Kidnapped by aliens? It didn't sound like she was joking. "I'll get things together and meet you in the conference room about 1:30. OK?" That gave him an hour to check things out.
Returning to his office, Dave did a double take. He hadn't noticed before, but his desk and chair were smaller than usual, sized to his boy's body. Taking a seat, he turned on the computer, noting how much larger the mouse felt. A quick check on Google brought up pages of information on him and his alien encounter. According to multiple news sites and his own entry on Wikipedia, Dave had been abducted by aliens ten years ago in the only documented lien encounter There was video of him being caught up in some sort of force beam and pulled up through the air to a huge chrome sphere hanging in the sky. News footage showed the sphere remaining in place for two days not budging an inch, before a much smaller human was lowered back to the ground. Naked and disheveled, this boy was easily recognizable from his own old photos, and probably from any mirror. The sphere vanished into the night sky, leaving a very confused man to spend the next year being poked, prodded, and tested by the Government. Lucky for him, the ACLU came to his rescue and helped him set up a reasonably normal life. The occasional crackpot still badgered him about 'youth rays' or alien fountains of youth, but for the most part Dave was an average adult businessman who happened to be stuck as a twelve year-old.
