As Ted Green tried to acquire a good night's sleep*, back in Moon Lake, Jen and Claire were finishing their visit with Josephine and Jacob Decker.
The parents of Jen's deceased husband Jeff and grandparents to her only son Tad, Claire was warming up to and liked the older couple, despite the fact that she still felt a bit uneasy in her position as Jen's new lover.
They talked of many things of interest to everyone, including Tad's girlfriend Amy Howler, who also wanted to meet Tad's grandparents for she hoped someday they would also be her future in-laws.
But as with all good things, the evening did end.
Once they returned to their own home, Tad offered to walk his girlfriend and fellow werewolf Amy back to her house.
"You know," said Tad's mother, "it's a lovely night and unless she has a curfew, I think you two might want to take the long way around and enjoy each other's company awhile," she added, giving her son a sly wink.
Tad actually started blushing as Amy said, "Thank you Mrs. Decker," before grabbing her boyfriend by the arm and leading him away from the house.
That left Jen and Claire alone, but instead of entering the house, Jen took Claire's hand and led her to the backyard.
Jen thought it odd that Claire remained quiet on the trip back, but respected her privacy.
Yet she knew something was troubling the newest werecat of Moon Lake, and wanted to know what it was.
"Are you okay?" she asked Claire, even as they walked around to sit on the back steps of the Decker house.
"Am I wrong to be uneasy about the possibility of were existence being exposed to the world?"(*2) asked Claire.
"No honey. I have my concerns too," admitted Jen, even as she wrapped her arms around the lady she ushered into were society and had lost her heart to. "Weres were maintaining our secrets long before either of us were ever born, let alone gained fur," she added, even as Jen started assuming her fursona.
Claire couldn't help but smile as she saw Jen's facial features switch from human to feline, even as fur covered every visible part of her body, for werecats were on the smaller side of the overall were scale and thus could transform safely while still dressed without risking damage to their clothing.
"But it has gotten more risky to do so over the years," Jen conceded, even as she rose and began a seductive strip tease in front of her girlfriend. "With all the improvements in technology, I'm surprised that we've remained undiscovered for so long as it is."
"It came close with that whole mess concerning Lionel Ulysses,"(*3) said Claire, even as she watched Jen with rapt attention, her gaze focused on every furry curve as more of her feline beauty came into view.
"True," agreed Jen, not wanting to think about that worthless wererat any more than she absolutely had to. "But if not him, something else would happen. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but at some point," she said, stretching as Jen's front paws reached far above her head as if she was trying to grab the stars overhead.
Claire couldn't help but move closer and smell the alluring scent coming from Jen.
"From what Jeff told me, the town has been prepared for years in case the secret was ever exposed, accidentally or otherwise," said Jen, even as she reached out to caress Claire's hair before hinting that she could move closer to what she was interested in. While she would always miss her deceased husband, there was no remorse within Jen's head or heart as she felt Claire's tongue tentatively explore its destination.
"Provided the town council can come up with a viable plan, I think this might be a good idea in the long run, at least revealing to the world that there's more to life on this planet than they think. After all, isn't the best defense a good offense? Or something like that."
"I wouldn't know," said Claire, looking up at Jen with a longing in her eyes. "I've never been a big football fan."
"Me neither," agreed Jen, even as she motioned for Claire to stand up. "There's nothing to worry about honey," Jen promised her, even as she wrapped her furry arms around Claire. "Even if they go through with it, the plan is only to reveal weres exist. Not who and where we are."
"I know," said Claire, returning the embrace as she laid her head upon Jen's furry shoulder. "But this is still all new to me. Despite years of longing, I haven't been a werecat that long."
Jen gingerly placed a paw under Claire's chin and moved her head until they were looking eye to eye. "All that you need to remember is that I love you, and will never let anything happen to you or us," she promised, before tenderly kissing her lover.
When their lips parted, Jen rubbed the tip of her feline nose against Claire's still human one and said, "It's a beautiful night. ♫Come away with me?♫" she softly sang while beginning to undress Claire, who issued a purr of pure pleasure even as feline fur began to cover her body.
It wasn't long before two werecats began expressing their love for each other.
There was no guarantee for anyone as to what tomorrow might bring, but that didn't matter for either of them that night under the stars.
