Dr Paul was being sent to the Congo. He was virologist being sent into the jungle to deal with a rumors of a new strain of Ebola. AIDS/HIV had also been largely contained, studied and dismissed. Ebola had a higher mortality rate and recent out breaks in West Africa had proved that the old monster had fresh impacts on life.
That was the cover story, in reality weird reports were coming out of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) about fighting. The Lords Resistance Army (LRA) had it's leader Joseph Kony being called Africa's David Koresh. Paul had been an ex-Tier 1 special forces soldier with the Navy SEALs. He never made it to the elite group of Seal Team 6 but he had a degree in biology.
Some bullshit papers and he was headed to Africa.
There were tin mines in the Congo worth fighting and dying for. The LRA used child soldiers, the mining company he worked for had used adults from around Africa. Including Rwanda, Dr Paul's real mission was to check out rumors coming from their soldiers via Skype that something deep in the jungle was turning their male soldiers into women, then into pregnant women.
