Adam stood at the checkout of an empty looking building trying to buy a small pearl. It was more of a bet he had with his roommate Jeff. Buy the stupidest thing he could find and bring it back.
The kind old man took the pearl and examined it.
“This is a special pearl boy,” the man said. “It can accomplish ANY task.”
“You’re jumping to a few conclusions there sir,” said Adam.
“How rude,” the man said snarkily. He smiled though. “I’ll tell you what. You don’t seem like the believing type. Let me demonstrate for you.”
The man pointed at Adam with the pearl in his hand, and Adam levitated off the ground. Adam was in disbelief. He’d never experienced something like this before.
“I’ll pay any price sir,” Adam pleaded as he flailed his limbs in the air.
The old man laughed. He tossed the pearl lightly over to Adam. The moment it left the man’s hands, Adam fell to the ground on his back. Adam started wide eyed as the pearl flew straight into his mouth.
“That should do the trick,” the old man said smiling. “You’re not capable enough yet, so I’ve reprogrammed the pearl for one specific thing. If you ever want it changed, you can always come back.”
Adam stuttered upwards and slowly walked towards the door, occasionally looking back at the kindly old man.
“Sir,” he asked quietly. “What exactly is it set to?”
