Alan was walking home with a pit in his stomach early Sunday morning. He had been hanging out with a few of his friends Saturday night when things got a bit crazy. He had gone with them to a taco bell late at night, only to run into another group of guys who invited them to a party they were on their way to.
One thing lead to another, and Alan ended up joining his friends to the late night chaos. Alan, thinking ahead before he got there, decided he'd weasel his way out of his parents finding out by using his magical notebook. Before he got there, he made it so that his friend Joey's mother had already decided that Alan could stay the night, and that she'd call his parents to let them know.
Next, he made it so that if his parents called him, they'd get transferred to a magic voicemail that sounded like him, talked like him, and could respond to them. The final note he made was that him and his boys would have fantastic time. They all arrived to the party and began immediately drinking and dancing.
The party kept picking up and Alan had a great time. A couple times he would misplace the magic notebook, but luckily it was magical so it'd always end up back in his hand. His favorite part is no one seemed to notice it and no one asked what he had it for. The party kept going on, but Alan started feeling the more negative effects of alcohol earlier than most. He didn't want to mss out or throw up but he also wanted to keep having fun.
"Aw man..." He talked to himself drunk. "I can't even use the book. It's still Sat-" He continued until he saw the clock on the wall. It read 12:02! "Oh hell *hic* yeah." He laughed as he pulled out the notebook and began to write inside of it. He got rid of any alcoholic problems for the night, and also made it so that he was sober again so he could start drinking again. He was about to make another change about dancing with some girls when he accidentally got a glimpse of his watch... which read 11:02!?
That was hours ago now. Alan had realized that the wall clock hadn't been set correctly after one of his buds bumped into it and they tried to fix it. He didn't drinks after that as he felt the guilt of going two changes over the original amount.
"Maybe... maybe they won't ask to check it?" He hoped as he was turning the corner. "Maybe they'll trust us both and just let it slide. Yeah, yeah maybe they will."
Alan walked up to his house, unlocked the door, and walked into his family sitting at the kitchen counter, looking at him with smiles. He awkwardly laughed and placed his bag next to the door.
"Did you have fun at your friend's house last night?" Janet asked calmly.
"Uhhh... Yeah! It was a blast, Alex's mom always makes the best-" He started but stopped as he remembered he had used Joey's mom as a scape goat.
"We're disappointed in you son." Steve said. "We don't have to read that damned book to figure it out."
"I'm sorry." Alan apologized. "It's just, I thought it was past twelve so I'd just quickly use it to avoid issues and-"
"Relax son, we're only a little disappointed, though we are not surprised." He said smiling.
"Yes, we figured one of you would break the rules." Janet agreed.
"So, I'm not in trouble then?" Alan hoped.
"No you are." Janet said cheerfully. "You still broke the magic rules. Not to mention whatever else you were doing at "Joey's" house last night."
Alan sighed and hung his head in defeat.
"So, what's my punishment?" He asked.
Steve and Janet both looked at one another.
"Do you want to do the honors?" Steve asked Janet.
"No I did it last time, go right ahead!" Janet replied.
Steve pulled out his watch, fiddled for a minute, and reality began to alter yet again...
