The King spoke with a gentle tone, “Damon, I’m not angry at you. I’m simply shocked that you managed to win over my daughter.”
The Queen spoke alongside her husband, “Agreed. I still believe you still have a very pure heart, Damon. I just never thought you and Charlotte could get along so well, especially with the tension that developed after our kingdoms fought each other.”
The King could see his daughter and Damon calming down, but he wanted to fully get rid of the remaining tension in the room. “Indeed, I’m genuinely really sorry for making you two terrified to be together. We’re proud of you both, we mean it. In fact, we come here with good news.”
“Oh, what’s that?” Damon said.
“We had a discussion with your parents and have settled on a peace deal that allows humans and merfolk to coexist together and freely trade for resources!”, The Queen said cheerfully.
“Really?”, Damon said, smiling.
“Yes, however. There’s one last thing that needs to be fulfilled, a wedlock that would symbolize peace between the human and merfolk kingdom. We originally were a bit hesitant to give Charlotte away to one of the princes of the human kingdom. But, it seems you two managed to solve that problem right for us.” The King said, grinning as he said the last statement.
Damon and Charlotte blushed as they saw the parents giggle to themselves, but Damon manages to break the silence.
“Charlotte, will you marry me?”, Damon questioned.
“Yes!”, Charlotte grabbed Damon’s face and kissed him hard. The King and Queen beam with delight as they see their daughter truly in love and genuinely happy. The royal couple eventually leaves the lovebirds alone, confident that the kingdoms are in good hands. The mermaid that introduced Damon to the merkingdom smiles in satisfaction, while she may have not have gotten Damon to forget his human life, she guessed it’s unlikely he’ll give up his tail anytime soon.
And the mermaid was right.
Damon never changed from being a merman, he preferred Charlotte to not have to give up her tail just to live on land and was more than happy to give up his legs to make his fiancee happy in her natural home.
When the wedding between Damon and Charlotte happened, Damon’s parents gladly accepted their child’s change into a merman and Damon’s older brothers hugged and congratulated their baby sibling for managing to essentially unite two kingdoms together.
When Damon and Charlotte kissed in front of their families, servants, and citizens, there were cheers that sprang not just from all over the land, but also throughout the ocean.
The humans and the merfolk were finally at peace.
