As you grasp the wand, you notice that the star at the top shimmers for a brief moment. Puzzled, you flip the wand over in your small hands, taking the time to examine the colors and ribbons.
The shopkeeper takes notice of your interest and starts walking away from your stall, closing the curtain on her way out. “I think I’ll leave you to yourself for a bit. A bit of privacy so you can... experiment.”
As you hear her footsteps begin to fade away, you turn your gaze once more to the mirror. Even though you have seen your new self many times now, you can’t help but feel surprised that the young girl standing before you is in actuality YOU. You raise the wand above your head and crack a slight smile as your reflection performs the same action. Diverting your attention back to the wand, you marvel at how its colors perfectly match the dress. You feel a burning question in your mind: what can I do with the wand.
You lift the wand again and hold it behind your back. ‘Wands can make magic happen; maybe this wand is similar.’ Curious, you tap the wand onto the wings you’re wearing on your back. All at once, you feel a surge of energy and heat, and have the distinct impression that something is digging into your back. You squeeze your eyes shut and brace yourself against this new sensation, but just as quick as it started, it has now ended. You anxiously crack an eye open and soon the other follows in disbelief. The simple wings that were on your back now appear much larger and have taken the appearance of a butterfly, shimmering and vibrant. Your eyes grow wider as you realize that you can seem to control them. You give a few test flaps and sure enough, the wings respond to your wishes.
It begins to dawn on you that this wand may be the key to helping you become a true fairy princess.
Now reinvigorated with a new desire for completion, you tap the wand onto the antennae headband. The headband seems to disappear, leaving two bobbing antennae befitting of a fairy princess. You gently tug down on one and are delighted to see it spring into action and bob around as you see fit.
Realizing that you’re unsure of how to proceed, you sit down on the bench and begin to rack your brain for new ideas. You twist your finger in a loose curl of your wig as you examine what else a fairy princess would require. Suddenly, you come up with a brilliant plan. While your brown hair is nice, it simply lacks the elegance that your current wig possess. What if you could always have long, blonde hair? Without wasting another moment, you place the wand upon your wig. You feel a tugging sensation all along your head, as if something is embedding itself inside your head. As the feeling subsides, you give a quick yank on the platinum hair, grimacing in pain as it holds steadfastly to your head. You can’t help but giggle as you take in your new appearance yet again, one that is surely more wonderful than before. There is no doubt in your mind that the figure in the mirror is a true fairy princess.
A crazy thought passes your mind: if I have wings, does that mean I can fly? You give a few test leaps off of the ground and while you can hear your wings flapping, you don’t seem to be getting any higher from the ground.
‘Maybe I need a bigger jump’ you ponder. Awkwardly climbing atop the bench in your dress, you brace yourself before taking a leap off the bench.
