Jenny was roused when she heard voices and the sounds of approaching footsteps. She opened her eyes before recoiling in horror. Now, walking towards her was the same male attendant from earlier. But what was much more worrying was who he was talking to; it was her wife, Abby!
“…so are you a riding enthusiast Mrs Jenkins?”
“Oh well I used to ride a lot when I was younger, and I’ve always been a horsey girl. I haven’t been on a horse for a while now, but when I heard that my husband wanted a romantic ride through the forest, I simply couldn’t refuse.”
“How charming” the attendant replied with a slight grin. “I believe he intends to meet you out there, which means we just need to find you the right horse. Thankfully I know just the one.”
Jenny watched in dismay as the pair approached. Feelings of both anger and worry ran through her body as she feared what would happen to his beloved wife.
“Here we are Mrs Jenkins. This lovely girl is Jenny and she’ll be your mount for today.”
“She’s lovely” she said as she reached out to stroke the mare’s nose.
But Jenny was having none of it. She pulled away sharply before whinnying and stomping her hooves loudly, hoping to unnerve her. She knew what tended to happen to visitors around here and she wasn’t prepared to let her lover suffer the same fate.
Abby jumped back in shock. “Jesus! She doesn’t like me very much at all. I think perhaps I’ll need a calmer horse.”
“Oh she just gets nervous when meeting new people” the man replied as he shot the horse a piercing glare. “I’m sure we can persuade her to behave herself. After all, she knows full well what happens to naughty horses.”
