“Could you repeat that Tad?” Jen asked, letting out a yawn. “I’m still kind of tired, so I didn’t hear you right.”
“I asked if you had Mrs. Samantha Twist’s phone number,” Tad repeated. “I need to ask her something important.”
“How important?” Jen asked.
“Pretty important...to me at least.”
“Explain it to me as we go downstairs,” Jen said. “I need to get my morning cup of coffee.”
“Okay,” Tad said, following his mom as she went downstairs and into the kitchen. She walked over to one of the cabinets and pulled out a coffee mug before walking over to the coffee machine and pressing a few buttons. The coffee machine lit up and began to suck up the water it needed from the small tank on the side before it began to brew the coffee.
“While that’s brewing, start from the beginning,” Jen said, turning to face Tad.
“Alright, so I got up this morning and started to get dressed when I got a call from Connor, and he…”
“Wait wait wait…” Jen said, cutting him off. “Who?”
“Connor. Connor Ross,” Tad explained. “From Quantico.”
Jen thought quietly for a minute before her face lit up with recollection. “Oh! That Connor!” she said. “I thought you were talking about a different Connor! How has he been? Is his dad doing well at his job?”
“That’s actually what he called me about,” Tad said. “He told me that his dad got promoted, and he’s now on the company’s board of directors, but since the company’s main facility is in Seattle, they have to move.”
“Well that’s nice to hear,” Jen said, turning around and grabbing her coffee cup from the machine. “But what does this have to do with you needing Mrs. Twist’s phone number?”
“Well...they’re not moving to Seattle,” Tad explained. “They’re actually moving to Moon Lake…”
“Well...isn’t that ironic?”
“After I hung up, I remembered how Mrs. Twist goes to the houses of every new family that’s moved in and tells them about Moon Lake’s secret. So, I wanted to ask her if I could potentially help her when they arrive later today.”
Jen was quiet as she thought about what Tad had just said. “I do have her phone number,” Jen said. “But I don’t think I should just give it to you…”
“Come on Mom,” Tad pleaded. “You know me. I’m not going to do anything immature with her phone number! I just want to call her and ask her if I can help greet an old friend!”
Jen sighed. “Alright, pull out your phone. I’ll dial it for you.”
Tad smiled and pulled out his phone, handing it to his mom. Jen began to dial a number on the phone before handing it back to Tad a few seconds later.
“Thanks mom!” Tad said before holding the phone up to his ear and listening to the sound of the phone ringing. The phone continued to ring for a few seconds after that before a female voice on the other end answered.
“Hello, this is Samantha Twist.”
“Hi Mrs. Twist,” Tad said. “This is Tad Decker. My mom gave me your number because I needed to ask you something important.”
“Alright,” Samantha said calmly on the other end. “What is it that you wanted to ask me?”
“Well, I recently got a call from an old friend of mine. His dad recently got promoted, and they have to move to Moon Lake. After I hung up with him, I remembered that you always greet new families when they move in and tell them about the secret of Moon Lake, and I was wondering if it would be okay with you if I helped you greet them and reveal the secret to them when they get here this afternoon.”
Samantha was quiet on the other end, as she was thinking to herself about what Tad had just asked. “What’s the family’s name?” she asked.
“The Ross family,” Tad responded.
“I do recall seeing paperwork about a Ross family moving in fairly soon...you said they’d be here today?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Well...I don’t see the harm in you coming,” Samantha Twist said. “It might be a little easier for the family to accept the fact that Weres exist if it’s told to them by someone they’ve known for a while.”
“Thank you!” Tad said happily. “Where should I meet you this afternoon?”
“You can just wait at home,” Samantha said. “I’ll come by and pick you up.”
“Sounds good. Thank you again!”
“It’s no problem Tad,” she said. “I’ll see you this afternoon.” And with that, she hung up the phone.
“I take it that things went well?” Jen asked as she saw Tad take the phone away from his ear and put it back in his pocket.
“It did,” Tad said happily. “She’ll come pick me up this afternoon, and we’ll head to Connor’s new house after that.”
“Alright, that sounds good to me,” Jen said. “Oh, maybe you should text me and tell me their address later. I might swing over so I can talk to Diane again.”
“Sure thing mom,” Tad said.
