Mary, in her pink robe, darts into the front room just as the door opens. Expecting the pizza, Mary stops in her tracks. It was Rob, her next door neighbor. He was about five years older than Mary, and happily married. And quite the hunk as well. He had the look of a movie star, but with a kind and caring heart. Most unmarried young women would sigh whenever he walked his dog around the block.
Rob stops in mid step, one hand still on the door knob, the other holding a plate of warm brownies. He stars wide-eyed at Mary scantily clad in a rob that left little to the imagination. He blushes furiously and turns his head away.
"I...umm...didn't know....", he trails off awkwardly, not knowing what to say in such an odd situation.
"Oh, hi there Rob, always good to see you!" Mary says lightly with a trace of a giggle. "Say, did you bring something for me?" Mary points to the plate of brownies.
Thankful for the opportunity to think of something else, Rob eagerly brought up the plate and held them out to Mary. "Yeah, I thought I'd stop by and see how things were going with you. Haven't seen you in ages and, well, Amanda baked more than we could eat, so, well, I thought I'd stop by and see how you were doing." Finally out of breath, Rob stops talking and proffers the plate to Mary.
"Oh, well, thank you!" Mary giggles and takes the plate. "Say, why don't you come in for a bit? I've got a pizza coming." With a slightly forceful push, Mary closes the front door with a thud. Rob gulps and nods.
"I suppose I could, Amanda's working late tonight." Rob says and follows Mary into the kitchen where she places the plate on the table and waves for Rob to take a seat.
