“It’s a merboy!”, the Sea Witch announced.
Charlotte was so delighted to hear the news. "Did you hear that, Damon? We're going to have a future king!"
Damon was surprised, yet happy. He remembered how much he bonded with his father and the idea of passing the memories and love to his own son seemed heartwarming.
“This is amazing! I’m so excited to have a father-son relationship!”, Damon said.
The sea witch nodded. “Indeed. Judging from the egg size and how your son looked inside the egg, your son is sure to be very handsome and carry the best genes from the two of you.”
Charlotte held her egg tighter, she was so moved at hearing how her son would turn out as someone attractive.
“However.”, the sea witch warned. “It’s likely your son will be desired in the eyes of many mergirls and mermaids that will try to have his body and crown. It’s important that you two keep a strong relationship with your child and talk to him about finding a good partner when the time comes for him to marry.”
Charlotte nodded. As a mermaid princess who was often the target of flirting and wooing from many mermen throughout her life due to her beautiful body, she could sense her son having to go through the exact same thing. Damon felt similarly as he held the egg closely and spoke.
“I promise to stand by my son. I promise to be the best role model I can be to him. I remember my brother, Aaron, often being the object of many women who only wanted his status and body - not his feelings or heart. If that’s going to happen to my son, then I will help him through growing up.”
“Me too”, Charlotte said. “I will teach my son to not tolerate any merfolk who will only want him for his body.”
The sea witch nodded and smiled. “I’m confident you two will be wonderful parents. I know you both must be very tired and nervous after everything that happened. As long as you two stick to your word, your son is sure to find a fulfilling life. Who knows? Maybe he’ll fall in love with a human princess - the apple wouldn’t fall too far from the tree once that happens, huh?”
Everyone in the room laughed, Damon could feel is nerves calming down. Everything was going to be alright. He has a wife, a supportive family above the land and below the sea, and a healthy son along the way.
Yeah, everything was going to be okay.
Once day rolled into night, Damon and Charlotte slept peacefully, with the egg resting neatly in the middle of the couple and covered in a soft blanket.
