His eyes settled on Sophie, the thief-turned-mare. She seemed to be settling in well, having been broken-in multiple times by Harry. She ordered another stable hand to go and fetch her while he waited with Mrs Jenkins.
“Don’t worry ma’am, Soph will be much more enjoyable to ride.”
“She looks very graceful” she replied as the mare was brought closer “I can’t wait to put her through her paces.”
The attendant smiled as he went over his plan in his head again. “Yes, I’m sure that will be very... enjoyable for the both of you.”
Jenny watched as Sophie was led inside an empty stall opposite her own. The attendant then motioned for Abby to enter as well, whilst he and his assistant nodded knowingly to each other as they followed.
Once they were all inside, the two men sprang into action. The head attendant fumbled in his pocket while his assistant grabbed Abby from behind. She tried to struggle but the man was too strong; well able to restrain horses, let alone people. The attendant then produced a small object from his coat. Jenny strained to see what it was from the other side of the stable. It took a moment to focus, but it was soon unmistakable: it was a syringe full of horse serum!
Jenny flailed and cried out in protest at this realisation. She kicked the stall door with her powerful hind legs, desperate to get out. Sadly, the door held firm, meaning there was no way of helping her poor wife.
She watched helplessly as her wife yelled out in terror. Unfortunately, the attendant was undeterred. With little hesitation the man approached before sticking the syringe into Abby’s arm. She shrieked as she was thrown to the floor.
The two men then left the stall and bolted the door firmly, knowing full-well what was to come…
