"A pair of shoes? Ah, I see, that camera is a trick one, it just made my body invisible in the picture." Jake said laughing.
He had put the camera down, and the next second he felt strange. He felt like he was lying on his back on the ground, unable to move a muscle. And he could only see straight at the ceiling of his room.
"Whatīs wrong with me?" he tried to say, but nothing came out. A minute later he felt a vibration on the ground, seconds before his brother Luke came in, looking around.
Jake only knows that it was his brother as he was picked up by him. "Why have I left my sneakers in the office? I barely go in here. Maybe Lizzy has put them here for fun."
Jake couldnīt believe his ears. What shoes? And what office? But he caught a view of himself in Luke's mirror when he moved to sit down on his bed. Only instead of himself he saw a pair of sneakers in his brothers hands, looking right like the one he had been wearing when he took the photo. "Oh god, Iīm the pair of shoes from the photo? How is this possible?"
But he stopped dead in his thoughts when he was sat down, only for Luke's socked feet to enter his vision. "He woundnīt put me on now, right?"
But because Luke didnīt remember even having a brother he slipped inside without a second thought. To Jake it felt like Luke had pushed his feet into his mouth. But he couldnīt do anything but plead.
And that was his life now. He was either worn by his brother, feeling every step like he was hit by a truck, wait for his brother to move when he sat at school, absorbing what sweat his socks didnīt, or was dropped off in the dark corner of Luke's room without anything to do.
And over time Jake's pleadings decreased the longer he was worn by his brother. He started to refer to him as his owner and himself as an it. His thoughts only cleared a bit when he wasnīt worn, but he was slowly loosing himself inside.
After a month Luke was tasked with looking through the office for a school project when he saw the dusty camera on the board. He looked it over, accidentally pushing the awareness button off and back on. But the damage was already made as the camera moved from being Jake's to being Luke's at this point.
Jake was dimly aware where his owner was at the moment. He remembered the texture of the ground from when he ended up here some time ago. He couldnīt remember how he ended here by now. But what was left of him suddenly felt a pull away and without any thought about the wrongness he followed it. Jake was finally gone, leaving only his mindless body back as the shoes of his brother.
