Charlotte looks up to her husband and finally opens her mouth.
“How about Arthur?”, she asked.
“Arthur? Huh…”, Damon wondered.
“Think about it, Damon. King Arthur. Even we merfolk know of the legendary leader on the land.”, Charlotte said.
“You might be onto something.”, Damon said.
“I am. Arthur would be a lovely name for him. It’s royal enough for any merperson to take it seriously, yet it’s familiar to humans and appeals to your human family. It’s the perfect union of human and merfolk culture.”, Charlotte replied.
Damon smiled, “Wow, you’re right.”. He looked down at his son and lightly stroked his face. “Hi, Arthur.”, Damon said.
Charlotte smiled as well. She was proud of herself for thinking of the name that would make her husband and her mermaid parents happy.
Damon and Charlotte stayed with their baby for a little while until they both felt it was time to show their child to their family.
As Damon and Charlotte swam out of their room, the Merkingdom was silent. It felt as if even the interior of the kingdom itself was silent to give peace to the couple holding their newborn child.
But eventually, the two of them showed Arthur to Charlotte’s parents in their rooms.
The Merking and Merqueen were completely awed and enchanted by the baby.
“Damon, Charlotte… He looks so beautiful…”, the Merqueen said.
“Indeed. Do you have a name for him?”, the Merking asked.
Damon nodded, “Charlotte thought of the name, ‘Arthur’.”
The Merking smiled. “That’s wonderful. Perfect for a future king like him.”. The brought a finger to his grandson and the baby cooed.
The Merking laughed in what felt like forever, he hasn’t felt this happy since he saw Charlotte being born. The Merqueen looked at her husband and warmly smiled, she could sense a close grandfather-grandson already being formed.
After what felt like forever, the entire royal merfamily felt like they were in bliss. The noise and business that came with being royalty felt completely silent.
With everything Damon and Charlotte went through, it felt magical for the married mercouple to see their baby right in front of them.
