Second Stop: Heiya Island

added by makutamon 4 years ago O

The next stop in the colony tour for Animalia's newest members was the newly named Heiya Island. While it was open for more than six months, it was officially named only recently due to people not being really decisive about it. But fortunately there was enough going on to allow this to be forgiven.

The biggest thing that was going on was the IAC Martial Arts Showcase and Tournament. While mainly it featured martial arts from China and Japan, there were also martial artists from India, Sri Lanka, and similar places, but two of the he most unexpected martial artists were from New Zealand and from Mexico. Though the ones from New Zealand were demonstrating the Maori martial arts and the ones from Mexico were demonstrating the Aztec martial arts, so they were able to "get in" on a technicality.

Most of the more "dangerous" weapon demonstrations were performed on sides of beef and pig carcasses, with Joshua "diagnosing" the injuries that resulted. As always, after the "victims" were "killed", they were shipped off to the kitchens, though this wasn't done in the presence of the cow and pig Animalians.

The tournament proper involved both showing off with foam rubber "training weapons" and wielding such weapons against different practitioners/"masters". Each matchup was broken down into three rounds of five minutes each, with a referee ending the round when time limit was up. Points were awarded on "damage", speed, style, and "aggression", but taken away based off of "showing off, or too much flair", poor sportsmanship, or similar actions.

There was also a "showing" of a meeting of the Zodiac Council for one of the big events in Asian history. The one that was featured was a debate about what to do about the power hungry Mongols getting a navy together to invade Japan. After some dramatized debating, which also included many verifiable facts about the Mongols, the resolution was surprising.

"I can answer that question." said Nuregami, "The Mongols are from a landlocked land, and they have no expertise in building ships."

"Go on, Nuregami..." said Ami, in her role as Amaterasu.

"They are seizing any vessel they can find for their invasion." said Nuregami, "I can verify that all the ones they have are not seaworthy."

"Not seaworthy?" said Kazegami, a little surprised to hear that.

"They are all either more usable for river or costal regions," finished Nuregami, "Not one of them have deep keels to prevent them from overturning in deep water either due to rogue waves or rogue winds."

"Then it's settled." said Ami, "Kazegami, Nuregami, you have power and permission to destroy the Mongolian navy."

There were only a few hiccups, with the most notable one being from a visiting family from India encountering the Five Elements. While it wasn't anything bad, technically speaking, it was mainly because the family were Hinduists and revered both cattle and tigers. While it was unexpected, Tuxing, Liao, and Shuixing did find the religious reverence flattering, if nothing else.
