Animalia Magazine: Summer Solstice Edition

added by makutamon 4 years ago O

The June issue of Animalia Magazine was a little off since the day shifts between the 20th and the 22nd. Because of that it helped that it was shipped on the 23rd because of how difficult it could be to get it shipped exactly on the solstice. Alongside the standard information about astrology and astronomy, there was also plenty of information about the IAC and other programs.

---

The cover couple was Andre and Melissa done up as Elder Scrolls-style adventurers. Their article talked about several things, including the history of the Elder Scrolls Series and the most well-known parts of such games, such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion's "Mr. Potato Heads". The second part of the article talked about what was now June's most popular video on the Animalia website: Melissa post conversion destroying her old helmet, not only because she would need a new size and shape anyway, but also symbolically destroying her old identity in favor of her new one.

---

Another article talked about the IAC King and Queen of the Beach competition, which not only included a bodybuilding competition but also a surfing competition and a swimming competition and also how the competition scoring worked. It also talked about the history of both bodybuilding and surfing as competitions. Some of the historical facts were well known, when others were more surprising.

There was also an article that featured a lot of dinosaur facts, which were often related to the opening of Dino City and what would be found there. For example, there was an animatronic Arthropleura wandering around, but if anyone tripped the (hidden) proximity sensors, the Arthropleura would rear up in a "threat" display that often had young children running away screaming with either fear or laughter.

There were often giant, animatronic insects roaming around, and generating mixed reactions. One such example was a Meganeura. It was perfectly capable of seeming alive by itself while on the ground, but was made to "fly" by moving along a thin, but strong and nearly invisible wire fed through the top of the carapace. It was both a special effects project and a way to help young children learn more about life before dinosaurs.

The article about Dino city also included a special list of the events taking place both there and at it's "sister colony", as Reader's Digest called it, Skull Island. What was also included was a list of "things to look out for to avoid getting killed", partly because of the size and weight of the shotputs, etc. and why the stands were a certain distance from the field.

There was also an article that talked about a list of dinosaurs that were "better off buried", mainly because of how weird they looked. If there was one on that was represented as a Dinotopian, the list included information on who that was and where they could be found. Agatha was not really ashamed to be on that list, because therizinosaurus was definitely a qualifier.

---

There was also information on the second two-part colony in Australia. While it was no secret that the Australian politicians dithered over where to put it, when word got to them of the reverence that the aborigines showed Ben and Tyree, they really began doubling down on it. The article also included information on Australian mythology and mythic creatures from the time before Europeans came to Australia.

There was also articles about Australian creatures in popular media and what their real world counterparts really were like. While some kids were a little disappointed that the real Tasmanian devil was nothing like his cartoon counterpart, it was good to know that there was nothing that could eat through practically anything.

Probably the best image from the Australian colony was from Ben and Tyree's wedding reception at Uluru Rock where they were seated on wooden thrones done up as tribal chieftains (fantasy ones at least). While they appreciated the gesture from the aborigines, it still required some getting used to.

While things were shaping up to be quite exciting, especially due to the IAC, the June issue of Animalia Magazine ensured that other parts of Animalia weren't neglected.
