The bell rings you scan the line of boys, and then look at the tails. You reach for a donkey tail, but find that your greasy hand can't hold it. So you grab it in your mouth and start running. The oily liquid covering you is getting oozing down your legs, and making the bottoms of your hooves slippery. You drop to all fours about a third of the way across the corral. When you reach Nate Colliers, you reach up and pull down his jeans and boxers. You lean in with the donkey tail and it leaps like a striking cobra to attach itself to Nate's tailbone. He lets out a scream that sounds a lot like a donkey's bray. You notice Nate and the others seem to be stuck to the fence rail and though he struggles he could not stop you from pinning the tail to him. You watch as his ears begin to grow furry and longer.
"Always said you were an ass, Nate, looks like I was right!" you say.
"What? Pigboy? Do I know yoo-ee-haw?"
Just then there is a commotion further down the line of boys. You are startled to see another half-man/half-pig struggling to attach a rabbit tail to a big burly youth. The hick giant man who brought you here is standing next to a very short bald man in old fashioned tuxedo with tails. They are laughing.
"Looks like your pig boy is off to an auspicious start. This one needs to find the boy who's nature is to be a rabbit, which this big galoot obviously is not!"
"Hope he tastes better than he thinks," said the other.
Taste? you think. Then you notice the banner hanging from the barn at the end of the arena. "ROAST PIG DINNER TONITE!" The other pigboy is running frantically along the line of men and boys trying the rabbit's tail on each. The enormity of the situation hits you and you dash back to the string of tails.
You grab an oxtail, that big guy looks like an ox.
You dash back across the arena and try to attach the oxtail, but it doesn't adhere. You glance from side to side, and spot another burly kid. You head toward him as the other pigboy has found his rabbit-man. As you turn to go from one hulking youth to the other. You ovehear the boy next to the burly one whisper, "Hey, Moose, look that kid turned into a donkey, and they're putting a rope around his neck. Whatcha think will happen to him?"
You don't stop to listen for a reply, but you'll look for a moose tail when you go back. Your oxtail fits the other big kid, who lets out a moan that sounds a lot like a bull's bellow. Horns are growing out of his skull as you race back across the arena. The other pigboy is attaching a peacock's tail to a boy with perfectly coifed hair, and a designer outfit.
You barely notice Nate who's clothes lay in shreds by the fence where he'd stood. He has a dumb dazed look as he is led away from the arena on all fours.
What does a moose tail look like? you wonder as you reach the line of tails.
