Animalia Magazine: Happy Birthday Edition

added by makutamon 4 years ago O

The July issue of Animalia Magazine not only featured information about the IAC, but also information about important events that happened in July.

The Cover Couple was a little confusing at first. It was Marcy and Chilly done up as astronauts, but the article they were advertising made more sense. Not only was July 2019 the IAC, but it was also the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. One of Marcy’s personal “maybe” goals was to be the first Animalian in space, so she and Chilly were chosen to be the Cover couple as a kind of “stepping stone”.

Another part of the article talked about one of the most “famous” conspiracies involving the lunar landing. Most of Animalia wasn’t aware of the theory that the lunar landing being a hoax. It included many of the things that some people pointed at as proof, and how they were debunked. The most famous “evidence” debunking was done by the Mythbusters, but it also noted on how people would still believe that no matter the evidence in front of them.

The third article in the same vein explained why the far side of the moon was so different from the near side of the moon. It was explained that, when the planet Thea collided with Earth millions of years ago, part of the molten material that resulted was launched into space to form the moon. Also, since the moon was a lot closer to earth as both were forming, the moon was having trouble becoming solid. While the side nearest to red-hot earth stayed hot, the farther side was already well on it’s way to cooling down. This uneven cooling helped develop the famous “man-in-the-moon” features while there weren’t any on the far side of the moon.

Another was an article on Actress Mae West and the snapping turtle that was now her namesake. Not only did it cover Mae West’s life as well as the movies she starred in, it also covered the events that led to Mae West II being uplifted. The article showed some MRI scans both before and after Mae’s uplifting, which were mainly focused on showing her skeleton. While Mae was more interested in her namesake’s life and career, she was able to help raise awareness for animals who get caught in plastic rings or similar things. There was also a link to a video of Mae II learning how to remove her shell, alongside some shimmying. One post on the video reassured her that “practice makes perfect, you’ll get there.”

The July issue was able to help people understand both history, science, and conservation.
