"DATE?!"
Seeing Roy's reaction, Stacy couldn't hold it in any longer and burst out laughing. "I'm sorry, Roy. I just couldn't help myself there."
"Oh thank God. For a second there, I was imagining how awful it was going to be if I had to go to the prom as a girl."
Stacy just smiled evilly at Roy. "Oh, you misunderstand. I was just joking about Ashley having a date. Her boyfriend broke up with her a couple weeks ago. I wasn't joking, however, about the rest of it. The prom IS this Friday, and you WILL be making an appearance."
And the emotional roller-coaster for Roy continued. Prom. His own prom had been an unmitigated disaster. Everything from trying to find a date, to the event itself were painful experiences for Roy. Now, he was going to have to go the prom again. This time, as a girl. Roy wanted to say, "What else could go wrong," but he knew that as soon as he opened his mouth, that something else probably would.
"Alright, so I guess I'm going to the prom."
"Good! So, give me just a few more minutes here and I'll take you up to the mall. This is going to be fun!"
With that, Roy left the room and started getting ready to go to the mall. His clothes were fine. He just needed to grab some shoes and he'd be good. Digging through Ashley's closet, Roy settled on a pair of black flip flops before flopping himself back on the bed to finish waiting for Stacy.
Time passed quickly for Roy and nothing else of note happened until he and Stacy were about to walk out the door.
"Don't forget your purse."
That was just one of those phrases that Roy had never expected to have tossed his way. He grabbed Ashley's purse and they headed to the mall.
