"Okay, okay!" said Sarah's body. "I believe your story. As crazy at it sounds, there's no way you could know about this little gizmo otherwise. I haven't had a chance to even test it out yet, much less tell anybody else about it. But I have to tell you, Sarah -- I don't see you as a dude. When I look at you, I see someone 100% female. You've got boobs from where I'm standnig. And I sure don't see breasts on me when I look down. So that part of your story is still pretty crazy."
"Well, crazy or not, it isn't what I see!" protested Roy. He gestured at his flat chest, still wearing Sarah's clothes. "I don't see any breasts here at all!"
"Hey, calm down," said Sarah's body. "Like I said: I believe your story. Somehow, this device got used on you... and probably on me as well. I don't remember it happening. But it's the only logical explanation for you being all hysterical, not to mention you already knowing about the device. And clearly it DID something to your perception of reality. You think I have your body and you have mine."
"No," sighed Roy. "You're still not getting it. I am Roy, but I'm standing here wearing Sarah's clothes. And you're Sarah, but you're standing there wearing my clothes."
"Go look in the mirror," suggested Sarah's body.
Roy reluctantly walked from the small apartment kitchen into the living room. He looked into a cheap, decorative mirror hanging on the wall and was shocked at the sight of Sarah Howard's very much female body staring back at him.
"Is this what you see?" Roy asked with hushed awe.
Sarah's body leaned forward and peeked in the mirror. Roy caught a glimpse of his own male reflection in the mirror as she bent forward.
"Yep," said Sarah's body. "That's us -- looking 100% normal. That isn't how you see reality, Sarah?"
"No," sighed Roy glumly. "And I keep telling you, I'm not Sarah."
"The mirror suggests otherwise," laughed Sarah's body. "But hey, don't get all upset. Like I said: I believe your story."
"Then you'll switch back with me?" Roy asked hopefully.
"Not a chance!" laughed Sarah's body again. "I don't want to be you. I'm perfectly happy as a dude. The last thing I want is to switch places with my roommate's girlfriend!"
"B-b-but, what am I supposed to do?" cried Roy.
"Calm down," said Sarah's body. "The way I see it, you have two options. First, you can accept your new fate and start living the life of Sarah Howard. I know it seems weird to you... but everyone sees you as Sarah already. That'd probably be the simplest solution."
"What's my other choice?" sighed Roy.
"I can use my little high-tech toy to switch you into somebody else's life," said Sarah's body. "Just not me! I may not be the original Roy Milford, but it's who I am now. All my memories are of always being Roy. I don't want to become a girl, no matter what you say. But if you'd like, I will use this machine to switch you into the life of... well, whoever else you wanna be."
