"... let me just double check the batteries in the baby monitor," said Alana, rushing to do so before meeting back up with Jake in the bedroom.
Several steamy minutes later, the pair were interrupted, hearing first a knock and then the distinct whine of a baby interrupted just after the start of a nap.
"Should I-?" Jake lifted his head from between Alana's legs to begin asking.
"No no, I'll get it," his wife replied, quickly throwing on a bathrobe and heading for the door, where a smiling coworker greeted her.
"Hey!" Claire greeted her. "You were in such a hurry today you left your phone at the office and- oh! I think I see why you left in such a hurry. Sorry to just barge in without calling but, you know." She held Alana's phone up. "I guess I should just see myself out then?"
Alana sighed. "Thanks, but the baby's already crying again... let me just try to get her back to sleep and get dressed. There's still coffee in the pot if you want to help yourself to a cup." She stormed off, a bit frustrated, as Claire made her way to the kitchen.
"Huh, what's this?" she muttered to herself, spying the book on the counter and flipping it open out of curiosity.
Clark tilted his head, trying to make sense of the book's contents a moment before tossing the cover shut again. He'd had a long day at the plant and didn't really want to deal with anything like that. Really he just wanted to relax and unwind, playing a few hands of cards with his buddy Alan from work. Really, the only reason he was in the kitchen at all was to check on the cheese dip and hot wings his wife Stephanie had started to whip up before rushing to the bathroom again. Seemed like the bun she had in the oven was jealous of the wings in the real one and was taking it out on her bladder. She was expecting their second child pretty soon, and still not quite sure about the name, but the pair was leaning towards Jake for a boy, and Janet for a girl.
Alan called out from the dining room where he was already shuffling the deck. "Hey, is it just that pregnant women aren't allowed to smoke, or should I take my cigar outside while we wait for the other guys to get here?"
