"I put them away in the attic as you asked, you said you wouldn't need them for a long time." Debbie said looking flustered.
"I know, and you didn't do anything wrong. I'm really sorry to do this to you, but could you retrieve them for me? I said those things because I didn't want to deal with some emotional baggage but its beginning to weigh on me... as baggage of this sort is prone to do, so, and I've decided to deal with it head on."
Debbie looked relieved that she wasn't in trouble, she offered a compassionate smile and disappeared. Allen waited patiently and a few moments later she returned with the notebook and bracelet.
"You've been so kind to me, Debbie, I'm afraid I've never asked about your hopes and dreams. Do you wish to travel? Live a simple life off the grid? Live a modest life but work for a charity you believe in?"
Debbie was taken aback, she was just an employee after all. Why is her employer so invested in her life? He does realize this is an exhausting job, and keeping a mansion in order with 6 or more people in it is a lot of work. Poor old coot must be lonely, she reasoned.
After all he did seem surprised by Naomi's temperament and request for divorce, he didn't see all the signs of her dissatisfaction and her growing frustrations... only when she stopped trying did he notice that something was up. Men are so blind. Women are such bitches. She decided to indulge him.
Debbie went on for a good 20 minutes filling Alan in on some of her friend's and family's drama, what her concerns in life are, but much of the time was focused on her dreams. It seemed like everything would be cool, neat, and interesting. Alan thanked her for giving him the time of day and made sure to point out that his ingrates of children wouldn't be able to talk to him for three minutes without their cell phones interrupting at least twice. She smiled and left.
Alan pondered for a moment, at a loss as to how he could reward Debbie's kindness even after he exits this reality. He pulled out his notebook and wrote, "Circumstances surrounding Debbie will gently and continuously push her into a life and lifestyle that is ideal for her and will give her what she needs to live her best life."
With his debt of gratitude repaid Alan wrote a few more rules in his notebook, grabbed the bracelet saying good bye to this life and hello to ...
