Going home from the family get together at the Tyson farm, Melissa Jenkins was feeling so happy, it was like being on Cloud 10 instead of 9.
Not only did her father get along well with Trevor's family, but the boy who inducted her into were society and made Mel his werecow loved her and wanted to see her as often as possible, even if those encounters didn't always involve a were's favorite past time.
Of course, Mel was also still looking forward to seeing her old friend tomorrow at school, provided that the Van Direstags had completed their move to Moon Lake by now.
I wonder how she'll like the new me, let alone adjust to were society? Mel wondered, but one day at a time.
Melissa slept.
She dreamed.
At first it was just happy dreams of her potential future as Mrs. Melissa Tyson. Not just tomorrow, but all the days beyond.
Then a certain red haired girl she had seen before appeared.*
"Hi mom," the lady said happily.
"Hello yourself. Is everything all right?" Mel wanted to know.
"On my end, everything's great. On yours..."
"What did you come to warn me about this time?"
"There's an important Town Council vote coming up that will affect the future of not only Moon Lake, but of all were society.(*2)" began the vision of the future daughter she would have with her husband Trevor. "It won't be smooth sailing, but it should all work out in the end. Meanwhile, if you get offered or come into any money, make sure it all goes to charity."
"What do you mean?" Mel wanted to know.
"I'm about as explicit as I can be without screwing things up," admitted the vision. "But otherwise don't worry. You and dad still get married after you both graduate college, and then I come along—"
Then the younger red haired girl paused, as if something was wrong on her end.
"Dang. My alarm's going off so I'm losing the connection."
Then the dream vision of her future child disappeared.
Knowing there was nothing else she could do, Mel let sleep reclaim her fully.
ELSEWHERE...
Megan Decrux was sound asleep when her cellphone started ringing.
The were-raccoon fought the urge to turn over and go back to bed as she lazily reached out for her unit.
"Hello?" she said, groggily.
"Are you just like your mother?" an angry voice Megan didn't recognize asked. "I have the cure for that!"
Then Megan heard the ominous sound of a gun shot before the call ended.
There would be no more sleep for Megan Decrux this night as she sat up in bed and dialed 9-1-1.
